My friend is really worried, her horse has had a small lump under her stomach since she got her a few years ago.
Only today when she has gone down we noticed that her skin had burst open about the size of a 5p and there is a lump of flesh sticking out the hole, with a bit of blood on it.
Its really weird and neither of us have seen anything like that before wondering if anyone has any ideas, what it could be cause we are thinking all sorts.
She isnt insured either oh no. Vet has been called but waiting for him to get back to us so dont know yet, what he thinks it ould be any ideas guys?????????
Thanks alot

My mare had a lump when I bought her....about the size of a 5p piece....about half a marble I guess. I bought her 7 years ago.....last summer it burst, and was like a small abcess....I flushed it and treated it and it went......she has another one now on the top of one of her legs....it is very hard, but because of the other one, I am not worried.....

What I am trying to say is that it might not be anything sinister at all!!

Probably the best way to describe it would be, are you ready for it , it looks like a very small willy coming out of the hole, but like a dogs one really pink sorry only thing i could think it looked like but it does exactly.

I think it probably going to be a umbilical hernia, but is that common in older horses? i have only ever heard of it in foals.

Sarcoids move in mysterious ways....it could of ulcerated and they can lie dormant and if undisturbed then can pose no problem. My other had a little collection for them under his back legs, near his wedding tackle!

The vet put him under a local, and removed them but the one that ulcerated was pretty nasty to look at, it was quick job, a few stitches and he was as right as rein and non the wiser.

Best thing to do is see what your vet says, could be something or nothing, could be a hernia also, if its small then I'm sure the vet will be able to sort him out without too much distress and cost.

Hope he's ok, some get better vibes coming your way!
