I'm sat here at work in London and I get a phone call from a very angry mother! My very angry mother.

The weather looked a bit unpredictable so Earl got turned out in the field rather than accompanying the racehorses out exercise as yard hack. He's usually fine leading all the racehorses and has a calming influence on them but if it rains he can throw a strop setting off all the racehorses, so he was turned out instead. One of the horses then gets loose out exercise, saw a puddle and flipped over landing on the rider

(who is ok, just a little shaken) horse then runs off in the wrong direction. Heathmen and several people are out looking for this horse and find him after a stressful 30mins. He gets led back to the yard but unfortunately Earl spies him from his field and decides to go crazy, charging around the field, roaring at his mate and of course sets the racehorse off again. This time the horse goes berserk, breaks his bridle and new australian noseband, knocks over the person leading him, gets loose and runs on to the concrete yard and promptly slips over again. Earl of course is making things worse and no one can catch either of them! Racehorse nearly knocked over YO too! Eventually loose horse gets caught with chiffney and then someone went to get Earl, also with chiffney

as he's puffing and snorting. Racehorse is washed down and it looks like he has just skinned his hock, and Earl is fine, jockey is fine. YO is furious however that loose horse nearly ran in to his parked horsebox and that Earl has broken a rail and completely churned up his field.

So Mum rings me to hurl abuse at me!

I understand she's getting pressure her end and must've been very scary having two horses galloping around and having YO hurl abuse at her but what can I do about it from here?! I'm just glad everyone is safe and sound. Although not looking forward to taking same racehorse out with Earl tomorrow when I go back there.

Sorry, rant over, just needed to let it out!

I don't think it's your fault TBH and it's a bit mean of your mum to have a go at you. What was she blaming you for?

Can't say she's blaming me as such but she doesn't deal with stress that well, so instead of calmly telling me what's happened, she screams down the phone, so bad I had to keep saying 'Mum, stop, calm down, is Earl ok? Did he slip in the field?' She really panics you and gets your adrenalin going. I'm sat here with that shaky feeling you get when something bad has happened, although I know everyone is ok now. Well fingers crossed the TB is ok in the morning.
I guess I just feel bad that she is left looking after my horse during the week when she is busy training racehorses. And it seems that my little monster causes her more trouble than they do, so when she screams at me that he has upset her TB's I feel guilty. Plus it is meant to be a racing yard so I am lucky I have my boy there, but if the YO turns funny, he might ask Earl to leave, they're always accusing him of breaking things. Then what do I do? GRRRRR STRESS STRESS!

sounds like a very stressful day glad everyone is ok. just give them time to calm down once they have calmed down everything should be fine

Oh dear

Silly neddies. Just glad everyone is ok.
Don't let yourself get stressed over it, your mum is perfectly aware of how these things happen with horses

It wasn't Earls fault, the TB is the root cause of the hassle

And he'll be fine tomorrow I'm sure, have fun

Christ your YO needs to get a grip, let alone your mother! Sorry, but things like that could happen at any time with horses around. Not ideal, but that's life.

Perhaps YO should have rocking horses around the yard instead...

Sorry, just caught me as strange that a YO would react in such a melodramatic way, winding up a client in the process.

Oh Poor you and horses and your mum. Your mum sounds like she was a bit shaken by the incident and took it out on you.

I would have thought that rather than lead a wound up race horse past another horse, the sensible thing would be to get the horse in the field inside, before leading hyped up race horse past.

Still the good thing is that no serious harm was done and by the time you get home, it all should have calmed down.

The field will grow over and the fence can be mended.

PS the pelham is in the post.

These things happen with horses. The TB seemed to have been wound up anyway before yours started running round. Was earl on his own in the field? Most horses i know would go mad if they were on their own and then an upset mate turned up. Can't blame him, or you, or anyone really.

People will be fine when they've calmed down a bit.

i agree, when everyone calms down it will be fine. it is horses after all. i know how you feel tho', if anything goes on at my yard, it is usually my girl(only tb on yard) that is in the midst of it. that's just horses i suppose.
