I have paid a deposit for an ifor williams HB511 and have read a few posts now where people say they are rubbish or not as good as others. People i have spoken to do nothing but praise them. I have been using an older one all summer and had no problems with it at all and it has been used for yearlings! Would like to hear anything, good or bad. I am worried now that i have made the wrong choice. Thanks

I can't comment from experience of the new ones but I have heard they are very cheaply built and have a lot of problems. many were recalled for problems with the floor. Also badly fitting doors, mould etc.
Sorry, not what you want to hear but at least if it is new you can get it sorted under warranty.
I won't have another Ifor now as they went downhill from when they used to be the best!

very good trailers which are user friendly and horses seem to travel well in them. if you have been using one all summer then trust your own judgement, its a personal choice. it would be my choice if i didnt have a lorry. enjoy your trips out!

I have a 511 and i love it.When they FIRST came onto the market there was a couple of teething problems such as mould on the inside/roof but it is just where a batch had not been sealed properly.Mine was recalled and resealed.I love my trailer and i'm glad i chose the 511 to replace my old 510.

personal choice, and like anything, people find faults or have problems with any brand they buy. I have a brand new 511 which carrys my 18 hh sports horse. The trailer is lovely, I cant find any problems with it. I love it and it looks great. The horses are comfortable in it.

Don't own a new Ifor or have any experience in them, but a friend always states "You can't go far wrong with an Ifor!" Good luck, I'm sure it'll be fine, they're a cracking company!

Phew, we did have a good look around in the ones they had at the place, for quite a while too. I personally couldn't see anything wrong with it and it'll be brand new, so if anything goes wrong it'll be going straight back! Just some other posts say they are not well made, etc, etc!

From my experience yesterday........you have definitly bought the right one. My 16:3hh horse got stuck between the front ramp and the roof of the trailer ( freak incident )due to the stability and workmanship of the trailer injuys were very minimal to most importantly my horse and the trailer. I love my Ifor Williams...........

I've not had a good nose around the brand new designs, but they have certainly had a facelift, long overdue too.

My very old Ifor Williams 505R has recently been replaced with a 2008 model Richardson. I adore my new trailer and have no desire to change it.

However, the point I was making, is that my old Ifor was one of the very first front unload trailers. It must be donkeys years old and it is still going strong.

Wonder how many of the modern plastic style trailers will still be going in 20+ years time.

Yeah i read loads of bad reviews and panicked but there weren't many other brands available. Bought new 511 and love it, nice and quiet not squeeking over bumps etc and horse loads perfect which he didn't before. Used a 510 oldish one before and thought it was ok too but love the 511. Enjoy!

LOL ive got one of the real oldies aswell! i didnt even know they made trialers in the 70s!

When I gave my Ifor Chasis number to the NFU they said it was manufactured in 1979!!!!!! It's a fabulous trailer and I had the wooden side panels "wrapped" in car grade vinyl. Gave it a new lease of life.

I just wanted to upgrade because I'm a snob (well that's what hubby says!) and the farrier was selling a year old Richardson rather cheaply. As it's also my surname, I had a strange desire to own a "personalised" (cough) trailer.

I had a 505 for 10 years i looked after it very well until my new horse had a hissy fit in it and trashed the inside so luckely it was insured and it went into ifor to be mended so I had to make a decision weather to change it i had heard all the bad comments of the last year with the new trailers but my dealer said they had recalled all the trailers had sorted the roof out and the other things like rust on back things that pull up the ramp at the back so i borrowed one and also i tried a Bateson Ascot well the Ifor knocked the Bateson into a cocked hat it is rumier and lighter with windows ,the bateson was such a phaf to put onto my 4x4 where im familuar with the ifor and its easy the Bateson had a tack locker but when I put my saddles in it wouldn't shut how daft is that !! so go for te new Ifor and I would spend a bit more and have the bigger trailer everytime also my dealer put me a free camera in it. go for it and ENJOY .

Have to disagree with you Hunteress on the Bateson Ascot versus Ifor....

I looked at the new Ifors and thought they were very plasticy.... and after looking at others decided on the Bateson Ascot... have never had a problem with saddles in the tack locker... so easy to use and its secure... unlike the Ifors that have the removeable locker box which is such a pain..... I had the windows added to mine and as its all white inside and out its very light and airy...there is a massive see through window at the front too... so we can view our horses from our 4 x 4.... and the suspension is to die for ... my previous bad travellers feel like they are travelling on air...and as for hitching up.. no problem - its got a mirror ready attached so makes it easy peasy....

Bateson all the way for me...
