So this is it folks! the firework season is on us again; local carnival is in full pelt tonight, can hear fireworks outside :(

Dogs blissfully unaware at the moment as telly on loud; but will leave the DAP diffuser on tonight to chill them out.

Horses both fine thank goodness; both in. Traddie-man used to be at a yard which was a stonesthrow from a military firing range so he probably thinks he's back there, plus mare isn't bothered, more interested in haynet.

Hope everyone else's horses/dogs/cats will be OK over the next few weeks though....

Hate this time of year

Moved both mine yesterday to a field in the middle of nowhere for two weeks. Last year my TB ended up through the wall and fencing and ended up galloping down the middle of a main road when some idiot set fireworks off right next to his field! He was so lucky to only be tired and drenched after a five mile gallop! Went through the lanes, through a five way junction at high speed, went halfway into town, turned round then back up a slip round to the outskirts of town and didnt stop till he hit the top, and all of this in a panicked gallop. A nice lady who thought she was seeing things as it was dark and misty and darcy appeared out of the mist snorting grabbed hold of his rug and dragged him into her field! How the hell he managed to not get hurt is beyond me, not taking any chances this year! :)

what is a DAP diffuser? Can I get one for horses?

We are next to a housing estate with community centre so expecting some whizzes and bangs, if there anything I can do particuarly to help the neds?

The horses couldn't care less. My mares been around too long, the younger one (& any others out with her) just copy her non-reaction. Farm cat not bothered either. House cat loves them, goes to the window to watch, bonfire night she'd probably stay out watching given the chance. Dog hates the bangs, have to leave the radio on loud if he's left alone ever from mid October onwards.

Was in house in my jammies. Heard loads of them going off and started fretting about Deano. This is the first year I have had him so not sure how he will be. Thought I'd just stick boots and fur coat on with jammies and pop up to check him - he was fine although slightly startled to have his mum pop up suddenly in odd garb and a head torch.
Anyway, got home and bumped into neighbour returning home with a bloke, was thinking god this is embarrassing what will they think of me running about dressed like this, when neighbour suddenly fell over backwards and stayed there, unable to get up due to excessive drunkness, bloke struggling to help her up due to same. Thinking I don't need to be embarrassed about my jammies...
Anyway, Deano seemed unphased by the bangs. Really hope he stays that way. Horrid time of year :(

Species specific so wouldn't work on horses.

Eek hope everyone's animals stay calm. I generally think horses will be OK as long as they don't get any stray rockets fall in their fields :-/ your poor TB Holz he must have been so confused bless him! I think we will be OK, I hate fireworks myself! I don't mind the quiet whooshing ones, but what is the joy in all that whizzing and banging? Does nothing for my nerves!

I'm sure there will be some little toe rags wreaking havoc around my estate with them too, sigh...

I heard this year's first fireworks tonight while walking my mare out (she's on box rest).

She didn't even blink at the bangs.........

We are quite rural - but last year house opposite had a firework party - horses could not care a t&&s.....but the young cattle in the yard went mad - broke several gates - but with them, it is any excuse to party really! Quite enjoyed husband going mad.......all OK at the end of it all!

My neighbour who owned the yard puts on a firework display every year, he does it on the other side of the barn but still close. Luckily my horses arn't bothered but I've got a new 2yr old con this year, he's quite chilled about everything so fingers crossed he'l be ok. I won't be able to go and check him as my baby's due that day, so poor hubby will be sent out.

congrats on excitingness re baby - hope all goes well !

My small animals generally couldn't care less. We close the curtains and put the radio on in there. My chinchillas are 14 and 15 and so have lived through a fair few - which is good because a panicking chinchilla can really injure herself.

Bree is now in at night in and indoor barn, and after all the building work this year should be bang-proof. She only came over from holland in February so won't hav experienced it before.

Our village show is set for 3rd Nov so we've booked the hossies into the local yard - our field is almost in the firing line for the display, but yard is over the hill! I'll be worried on 5th; I don't think Pottie worries about them, but new boy Denys is a bit spooky and I'm not sure he's going to like them.

I loathe fireworks and am very annoyed to have been invited to my sister-in-law's back garden display this year. I'm going to have to stand there and pretend to like the darned things  The organised village display has my support though! Very easy to plan around!

Yep its the time of year cretins leave the idiots lantern go out side and let off a bit of misery for pets, my horse couldent give a stuff but my friends dogs are in bits every time...

Horses never seen bothered by them. My new boy is Irish so pretty chilled and the ex-racer stands and watches them as did my Friesian - think they like the displays. Fields back onto a golf course which has a great display every year. It's probably about 1/2 mile away though.

Used to drive the Border Collie nuts but she's almost 15 and deaf as a post now so doesn't bother her any more. Bernese Mountain dog is so thick and gormless, nothing bothers him!

I absolutely hate fireworks. My old dog was petrified & I had to dope him up every year. Lived in London then so they started in October with Diwali then went on to New Year.

My friends horse got colic last year from being so so scared. Ended up having 2 ops & a 30% chance of surviving a year. She's just finished paying the 8 grand vet bill! He's still with us but she's so anxious that it'll happen again this year. She's going to try doping him & hope that gets him through it.
