So, I was having a lesson tonight and my daughter (aged 11) and her friends were all getting so excited as the riding school is having a dressage and showjumping competition. They all started signing up for it and I don't know why but I just got carried along in the euphoria of giggling tweenies and signed up! I'm 43 years old!!! Now I'm panicking that my daughter and her friends will get the rosettes and I'll fall off or forget the test or get disqualified! Why oh Why did I do this!!!???

You'll be fine! Lots of deep breaths ;)

Is that in HK, if so which riding school? I was working there over the winter and rode at Tuen Mun (and at Pokfulam a few times).

You'll be absolutely fine and you'll love it!!! I was talked into doing a pairs in XC last August by my friends 16 year old daughter...I'm 42 and it was my first XC event!!! We came 4th and I even had to lead her over the ditch (she led me over everything else but still!!!). Age is only a number 40's are young now a days...that's what I keep telling myself anyway!!!;)

Yes but jsr, that's my problem - I don't think I ever grew up! Well done in the XC by the way.

Good luck. Many years ago I entered a drerssage comp at my RS, I won my class and was jubilant, took my red rossette to work - I didnt like to tell my work collegues that even though it was 'seniors' the closest comepetitor to me in age was 14!

Couple of glasses of wine before you go in maybe ? Once you get in there your competitive streak will take over. A guy I work with had a girlfriend who had horses and he went to a local show, entered a class and was ecstatic when he beat 3 others - their ages 6 - 9, his age ? 58 !! He was so proud of his ribbon.

Hi there, I could have written this thread, I'm 43 and my daughter is 11 and we both did our first dressage test on Sunday. It was fab, we both did very well, we had someone to call the test to us. We all had a brilliant day so go for it. Tell us how you get on:)
