I do agree she looks younger than stated. But what on earth leads you to the assumption that she has been sored? What do you base that statement on? Because she is coming from America or what? The shoes might be quite different from what we are used to seeing, but absolutely nothing in that picture would make me think she had been sored?

Very emotive thread with no basis in truth or knowledge of American shoeing or the hideous practice of soring IMO.

Incidentally, for the ignorant amongst us, this advert is from a highly respected stud and producer of show Hackneys. Unless you really know what you are looking at, and what you are commenting on, it might be better to do some research on the subject before writing libelous threads on the internet?

Oh for gods sake, get a bleddy grip all of you. She will have been strung, hence the shoes, it is a very normal practice with Hackneys to get the action. No soring or cruelty would have been involved at all.

She only looks about 2 aswell!

You obviously have no idea of the conformation of a Hackney pony, I admit they are not everywhere in this day and age, but before you all spout a load of old rubbish on here, do google the Hackney Pony, you will be supprised about how much you might learn!!

It may be normal but that's does make it right.

And your point is? Yes its about Walking horses, not Hackneys. If you are so concerned about welfare go and rescue a poor pony from Redwings.

Ah but the chains you see alongside the over sized pressure shoes are used on the horse from what i can see it doesn't matter what breed it is ...

Also i'm not quite sure how me rescuing a poor pony from Redwings has to do with Soring a horse ??

The chains are to encourage knee and hock action and cause no pain, the shoes are not pressure shoes, they have a clip to attach a rope to use in long reining to again encourage the hackneys natural gait. Just because you have seen videos of soring on the internet does not make you an authority on the practice. In fact you have made yourself look a bit of a prat.

Ah right ;) sorry silly me i cannot help being such a "prat" please do forgive me all knowing Justabob.

Regardless i do not like it.

 theres no need for name calling! OP made a mistake theres no need to get nasty over it.

I'm happy to admit i made a mistake, just looked remarkably like the things i saw last night on a documentary :) However the way in which it was handled was rather childish....

So the shoes and deformed feet (cause thats what feet like that are, they are not meant to be that long) is not cruel, regardless of whether they have sored the horse or not. Although the fact that around her pasterns and down the back of the lower leg does suggest that such a practice may have occured.

i would have thought the same with the chains being there, but i couldnt comment cos i dont know anything about hackneys or how theyre trained. its easy to make a mistake, we cant know everything about everything!

i think people need to learn to correct mistakes and educate others, rather than biting peoples heads off and acting like a know it all teenager..

I would have no way of knowing if the horse had been sored.

I can say that neither the shoes, nor chains used to 'enhance' natural action look appropriate to me. I prefer horses to look, and move, like horses.

Don't know a great deal about hackneys but last time I saw them shown (in hand and driven) they were a stressed bunch of unhappy creatures and the whole experience reminded me of videos of the worst in Arabian showing. Doesn't mean that is how they always are. Certainly put me off all the 'well respected' trainers that I came into contact with that day though and I suspect they are another unfortunate breed in terms of who they attract as owners.

(And I say that as an Arab-lover!)
