Well when I got to the yard last night the boy was pawing the ground and rolling, we got him up and called the vet. He was trying to throw himself on the concrete to roll so had to keep him walking really fast. All indications were that he was in terrible pain. Vet came and sedated him, gave him painkiller and stuff to relax insides, did rectal exam, flushed out his stomach. Two hours later he was off again, pawing and rolling and kicking so called vet again and started walking him by the time the vet arrived he seemed to be much better, vet game him stronger painkiller and he was ok after that. Overall consensus from the vet is that he is a big wuss with a low pain threshhold (his words) as there was nothing that he could find that warranted the way he was going on. Trust me to have a horse who behaves just like a man!! So I was at the yard until past 2 this morning and back again on my way to work. Anyway he seems fine now, but I am knackered!!! Thanks for listening!

How's your boy today?

I hope he is ok

Its good that he's ok, but not very fair on you.

We had a similar experience with the mare when we brought her in for a week to handle her foal (he was untouchable) We left her by 6pm got home and made tea and we got a phone call saying she was thrashing around. Got there and she was lying on her side as if she was dead, the foal was standing over her trying to suckle, luckily he was ok. Vet came and gave her painkillers and muscle relaxants and hey presto she was absolutley fine, nearly gave me a heart attack when we found her lying flat out though, thought I'd have to hand rear the little one

The vet checked both ends and couldn't find a thing wrong, put it down to stress...

Strange horses, anything to make us worry

What a fright you had, hope there's no reoccurance and the vet was right about being a wuss - he obviously has man flue

Do you think it could have been spring grass?

thanks all,

He seems to be fine today. Bad tempered as he wanted some real food and not just bran mash. I was really worried last night at one point his whole stomach was in spasms.

The vet says it is the time of year, the grass is different so they all get upset stomachs.
