Oooops. I have just managed to prebook myself into a ridden heavy horse showing class on sunday!
I only rang to enquire if they would mind me bringing hovis as he is only a part bred heavy (lord knows what dad was!) and somehow have managed to get talked into this.
Oh poo.
There'll be loads of nasty little ponies stallions there and last time we were anywhere near said screaming little beasts hovis buggered off. It is the last class of the day though so hopefully they will have mostly gone.
I've not got a clue what we will have to do, Hovis is hardly show material (he's currenlty filthy with half his mane missing from a rather heavy handed game of "I am a stallion") and I ride like a duck on an elephant.
I have no idea of show etiquette, show attire, the rules of the ring plus hovis has been known to have complete brakes and steering failure so lord help any other entrants.
Seriously i must be mad............

You'll enjoy yourself honest

Sunday is 6 days from now, plenty of time to figure out the 'how to show' part. (saying this i have only tried it once and I was rubbish! lol)

As for the half a mane, it adds uniqueness lol. And im sure you're right most people will have gone home if its the last class of the day.

And think of the positives, im sure he'll behave much better than last time so you'll be able to track his improvement

You'll be fine, and he'll be on his best behaviour!!!

It sounds like it could be great fun! I don't have the stones to compete myself (my mare is an old hand but I shrink from an audience screaming "don't look at me") so I envy you. Good luck!

Speaking as somebody who only tracked down the dressage test on Saturday for a ODE yesterday, and remembered at 8am yesterday morning (test at 12.40) that you can't have it called in a ODE, you'll be fine. 6 days is an eternity! I'm sure showing bods on here will be able to help you with etiquette and any other questions you have.

Oh Goody! Will very much look forward to Hovis' friday diary telling us all about it.

In terms of showing knowledge, what do you need to know? Show ring ettiquette? What to do in individual show? What to wear?

Is the likkit still in evidence??

So pretty much everything as it should be for a horse and rider then

Don't panic. Talk to the army man.Get him to help you with a short simple show and help you with the breaks. Also get him to put the fear of God into Hovis.
