The breeder of my appy colt has just emailed me, i asked her what she had him fed on, and im a little daunted by the reply.
He's on, a couple of handfuls of mums feed at each feed time, im assuming twice a day, and she has
Rolled barley
sugar beet
pasture mix
soaked grass nuts
alfa a
spillers buck eye grow n win

Now, i was planning on having him on D&H suregrow and alfa a. How should i go about weaning him off all that, relatively quickly as its dead expensive!

Don't worry - he's already getting alfa a - just start him on that and introduce the sure grow gradually - he'll be fine

OMG how many different feeds does 1 horse need, talk about making life difficult.

Do you think people do that one purpose to make them look knowledgeable???

Agree with scotsmare, it's not like he'll be eating huge amounts.

So just take out everything else and gradually introduce the suregrow?

Yep, you can keep the sugar beet if you want but cut out everything else and introduce the sure grow across a few days.

Strange combination of things to be feeding him though

she doesn't need to be giving him half of it!!

I thought it was a bit of an odd combination myself, but i didnt question it.
Im glad youve said that though scotsmare! i was getting worried id have to shell out loads to get all those feeds before i could change it!
