Poor Jiro, not the most photogenic of horses! He really looks better in real life. He is standing on a slope, facing downhill.

I don't like a fat horse, but I think he could do with a bit more padding.

He has a weedy neck - suggestions welcome on how to muscle him up.

No topline - again, needs muscling up.

And a sneaky one of the Three Fat Horses!

Aww he has a nice face anyway

I'd suggest lots of long and low (no gadgets!) lunging in the first instance as I imagine that lack of muscle tone indicates a fairly low level of fitness

Reminds me of the piccies I posted of the Dizzy one

Lots of grass! Has helped to bulk up her neck a bit, that and a big field with some mates so lots of walking around and playing

As for building up muscle, get that butt working lol. I like the Pessoa and if I could find mine I'd be using it on the Dizzy one on the long and low setting, as it is I'm just riding every day and asking for some attention inbetween the 'Oh I'm a Prima Donna and See How I Can Piaffe!' sessions

Thanks peeps!

Grass not an option. He will not be kept at this farm on a permanent basis and I don't have grazing as such, just turnout paddocks. So he can have lots of lovely new hay instead - FB will hate him

O he looks nice - not disimilar to the ex -racer that some one has just got here. Needs to put some condition on and his muscle will come with lots of gentle excercise - would imagine he isn't terribly fit right now.

As you says lots of hay and some oil in his feed should do the trick - do have alfalfa there or is it straights that you feed? If its straights soaked oats will do trick!

MrsM - Inca can be your mascot for the Long Mane Campaign - it makes Dizzy's look short

It's that Anglo Arab thing with the wispy mane and tail.

Yes, all mine are on soaked oats

I don't really like alfalfa that much but I can get some here, so I might try him on a bit. Again, FB will go crazy jealous

Poor chap does need a bit of tlc doesnt he. It may be the angle of the slope but are his front legs sound? Looks a bit dodgy on the lower part of the near fore?

LOL!!! Don't worry guys, he's only part Arab. He's papered as Anglo Arab by the military stud he came from originally but I think there is more TB in him than 50%. I seem to remember his ad said something weird like 16.97% Arab????

Mrs M - I'm a long mane girl too. FB's needs a tidy up but is just getting there after being hogged three years ago. Although he did look cool with a mohawk!

He's got a thickened fetlock on the left fore (I don't know my near from off, sorry!). It's an old injury and he was totally sound when we bought him Unfortunately the farrier was a bit over enthusiastic with the trimming AND managed to nail prick his rear hind (what is it with bl00dy farriers here?

) so he is a bit pottery, but much improved. Another farrier is out on Monday to check him out and I will get horse vet to look him over too. We have him on three weeks trial at the moment so if he shows up anything nasty, he's going back.
