Oil

Gerry came to me a little poor so I'm adding oil to his feed as lots of people on here and at my yard have recommended it for giving condition.

At the moment I'm adding a fairly unscientific glug, how much would people recommend for a 17.2wb?

What else are you feeding him

If you want to add oil I would add it in two ways.

1) Use Alfa oil 2) I always use Baileys Outshine, which is a high oil based feed.

To make a lot of influence with the oil you get from the Super market you would need a lot.

Oil based feeds are also good as a calming feed supplying long term energy with out the fizz

He's currently getting the feed below twice a day.

1/2 scoop Calm and Condition
1/2 scoop Alfa A Oil
4-5 Apples

We tend to use bog standard oil and soak the pony nuts in it. The fussy ones like it too.

a mugful of oil should start to make a difference.

Have you thought about feeding linseed meal though - thats fantastic for weight and cost effective

Anything from 0.1ml per kg bodyweight up to 1ml/kg.

Thanks. I had wondered about Linseed but didn't really know enough about it or how to feed it.

As a child our horses were fed calf powder if they were poor when they came to us, have been tempted to see if its still available but never heard of anyone feeding it these days.
