I just got a new M Toulouse Celine saddle, and was wondering what I should do about oiling and cleaning it.

I've heard that you should oil your saddle before you ride in it, then condition it for a few weeks after every ride.

Whats the difference between leather oil and leather conditioner, and what brand do you recommend? Would Effax leather balsam be considered oil?
THANKS :)

You should always condition it before riding in a saddle, leather against leather, with the new more environmentally friendly tanning regulations, mean you will get marks, especially under the skirts and where the girth buckles sit. Oz's sheet will be a good one, I recommend cleaning with just water (an old fashioned woven dishcloth gives a bit if bite to your elbox grease) and condition as required, don't overdo it on thinner leathers on seat and pads.

I like - Effax Lederbalsam, Oakwood Conditioner, Stubben Hamanol and Leather Therapy conditioner. These exact products, not just anything from those lines. The wax in conditioners is what protects leather, the moisturisers in it condition the leather, oil just stretched fibres and makes it floppy, essentially weakning it.
