What did you want to be when you grew up?? Its amazing how you end up in a job/occupation etc you never thought you would.....

When I was young for some reason I wanted to be a car sales person.....LOL.....dont ask! I did try and apply for jobs, but back then ladies in the car industry seemed to be a no no.

When I left school I had been accepted to do a Degree in IT, however a week before "signing up", for some strange reason I was interviewed to be a Junior in a Hairdressers, so I ended up doing that! For 3 years did my training but then left and eventually went into Admin.

Eventually followed the IT path in the NHS, then went on to eventually becoming a Practice Manager!

If someone had said to me when I left school that I would be doing what I do now, I would have never believed them...........

I wanted to be a vet growing up!

I had all intentions of doing the relevent A Levels but HATED chemistry at GCSE so couldnt handle doing the A level then a 5yr degree involving it!

So I did different A levels, waste of time to be honest, I got A's in them but have never bloody used them.

I dont work now, lady of leisure lol.

I wanted to work with animals but more on the livestock side of things. When I was at school I did work experience at a bull insemination unit in Dorset and it was fastinating (not in a weird way)!!! But I got involved in the lab and testing side of things as we ll as having the privaledge of working near some of the best bulls around...all different types of breed and stature...amazing but pretty scary when you are close up to them!
I would have loved to have got a job there and even today...I would go back into that if I could.

I wanted to be a primary school teacher. Did my work experience at a school then carried on there helping out as and when I could. One morning woke up and decided I didnt really like kids so didnt want to do it.

Didnt really have a clue what I wanted to do so worked in retail - wasnt too fond and too tempting to spend lots of money, then worked in a call centre - hated it, worked in a bnak - hated that too then came to work for the government. Didnt think id stay as long as I have, and didnt think id ever say this, but I love it!

I wanted to be a self-sufficient/organic farmer .... and now I run a management development business! (??Growing people even if I'm not growing crops???)
Mind you, if I won the lottery ...... ~~~dreams~~~

When I was little all I wanted to do was work with animals, then when I got to my teens, I started to read Patricia Cornwell novels and decided I wanted to be a Forensic Pathologist, worked my backside off at school to get the grades I wanted then went to college to do my A levels.
Even took Chemistry for this and I was useless at it at school.
Anyway after 10month hated college, left and sent my cv's to all the vets in the North East and got one reply.
They took me on stayed there for 18month then moved to a bigger practice specialising in small animals, and love it. Still read my Patricia Cornwells' but would never change my career now.x

I wanted to ride horses. I never wanted to be a famous rider but just wanted to have a job where i rode and worked with horses all day.
Worked with horses since the age of 13, 17 full time, but have recently taken a two year break as the politics and drama that go with working for some people was just too much, started to make me forget why I did it - the love of horses - but since then have met the man of my dreams we're moving down south together and the plan is to eventually have my own business producing horses like i've always wanted to do!
I missed horses terribly in my break but know I'm going back in with a clear plan and a renewed passion for the beautiful beats!

I wanted to be a vet, did all the work experience, took the relevent a-levels but unfortunately spent to much time with boyfriend and horses and just missed out on the 3 A's

So I went on to do physiology/biochemistry related degree and am now a consultant in the pharmaceutical industry. I'm actually glad that I am not a vet now as I have the time and finances to support the horses as a hobby

Pssst, Soapbox is for the non-horsey chat

I think I went through a phase of thinking I wanted to be a vet but having lots of vet students as friends now I'm glad I went for law instead

I wanted to be a vet, then decided it was too hard and I'm not clever enough, then wanted to be a primary school teacher - but don't want to go to uni now. Now I don't know what to do, I'm looking at the Police Force but it's not going to be easy

I always wanted to marry a rich farmer LOL!! I ended up being the farmer......something went wrong somewhere down the line I fear

I wanted to be a vet or a writer. Couldn't get to grips with the chemistry required for being a vet, but did do quite a bit of freelance writing for horse magazines. My last job was as a researcher for a political lobbying company - something that I hadn't even heard of whilst I was at school!

I didn't have a clue, stuck a pin in the list of college courses, landed on Florist, but flowers make me sneeze so I did it again and ended up being a Nursery Nurse

I did get my BHSAI a few years later but only did it for the SM part and have never used it, I hate teaching.
I've had all kinds of jobs, none of which I imagined myself doing when I was at school......actually, all I wanted to do at school was marry my Elvis lookalike boyfriend (it was a long time ago) Father decided to ship me off to college miles away so that I didn't.

It might be easier listing what I didn't want to be

First was journalist after I wrote for a fanzine, then police officer (but only fancied doing mounted section so not really an option!), then lawyer (I passed nearly all the modules on the CPE course but failed the Equity and Trusts exam 3 times eeek) so ended up working as a secretary for the council (after many other shop and call centre jobs). I loved my council job but deep down I had a desire to work with children that suddenly crept up on me.
