Ok I know i want a treeless but which one?

Hi there,

I know this has probably been done a thousand times before but i would love to hear from people who use treeless saddles and which ones?

I don't have a fortune to spend so quite like the look of the easytrek or the new dream team one that's being launched?

I know that a lot of people are against treeless so don't need to hear those opinions, i also know that i need to get the specific treeless pad to insure spine clearance. Please if you ride treeless let me know your experiences good or bad!

I have a barefoot london - the dressage model. I don't wear it all the time (use my jumping one too) but am pretty happy with it. My back person (chiro) recommended this make as they have a very long bit that takes the pressure from the stirrups to spread the weight, along with being cheap (ish!) I figure if in a couple of months when my horse sees the chiro for a check up, if theres loads wrong (which there doesn't feel like there is!) then it will come back on my back guy a bit really

I bought a barefoot physio pad to go underneath it, which my back man also really likes

I wouldn't go for the mega cheap ones personally, I think barefoot and torsion are probably the best for the type of saddle, without being megabucks.

I have a barefoot cheyenne, and I love it - my TB went really well in it as did my irish cob - good saddles and not too horrifically expensive!
 
I have a Heather Moffett SBS GP for my mare and the Fhoenix dressage for the cob. Obviously being treeless they can swap!

I love them both and wouldn't have anything else on Dom (the cob) because his shoulders are so huge. In fact I couldn't find anything else that fitted without having something made.

Treeless didn't suit the arab though so he has a high wither synthetic because it was lighter (he's an ancient 34yo with no topline so the lighter the better!

I wouldnt ever ride my cobby girl in anything else! I went to the cheaper end of the market as I was very poor at the time (When are horses owners anything but??!) and bought the Robinsons Roamer and pad. I love it and so does my mare. Id love a dressage style one, must start saving up!!! x
 
My friend rides in a Torsion and swears by it. I would have to say I wouldn't be happy riding in a cheap brand.

Personally I found the Torsion lovely to ride in but it really didn't suit my tb, but that was more medical than anything else.

Whatever you do GET IT FITTED!!! They are NOT a fits-all miracle "never buy another saddle again", whatever the marketing says.

I agree that you need to have it fitted and be shown how to fit it yourself (as your horse's shape will change once he has been ridden in treeless for a while) - but I have to disagree, with the other bit of your comment. I'm an advisor for Solution saddles, and I can fit a Solution to any horse - where the confusion lies is that people assume "the saddle will fit any horse" rather than "the saddle can be fitted to any horse".

Ditto that, I trialled one from www.bettersaddles.co.uk which gave me chance to get it fitted by my aforementioned back man. Plus it was her demo saddle which I bought off her for about £150 less than a brand new one

, which I really like but I wanted a GP saddle, so I now have a Total Saddle Solution GP which was a complete bargain from ebay. Both really nice traditional (ish) looking saddles.
 
I've had the old style Trekker Treeless (looks like the Barefoots) and I upgraded to the Trekker which has a gullet like a traditional saddle

Not especially cheap but no dearer than a freeform or torsion, suits even high withered horses, doesn't roll on the barrell types etc.....

BTW, th handle at the front does come off but since I have a pony that bucks it stays on mine

I really would strongly advise against buying anything cheap, they really are of poor quality and value. I have a Torsion, and yes, swear by it, but as always, suitably depends on both your horse and yourself.
 
Thanks everyone for all your comments! I have decided to get the new Dream Team saddle they have just launched and are partners of torsion! It is treeless style but english cut and although it will be going up to £500 the launch offer is £349 so i think thats a good price! They don't actually have the product in yet so i can't have it until October :-( but i am very excited i will let you all know what its like when it comes!!!!
 
i have a saddle solutions freestyle, and will be getting a GP or Jump model too

i use it on several horses, and adjust the shimming to suit
 
Not all treeleess's suit all horses, so don't set your heart on the dreamteam saddle - trail one first.

My friend has a HM fhoniex saddle and swears by and, and they are marketed to fit anything. But a friend borrowed it to try on her new cob (very similar to first friends horses's shape) and they both HATED it, despite having high hopes.

trail a couple of different types.

I wouldn't have a Barefoot (or simialr) treeless as they are nothing but glorified bareback pads and the horse agrees. However I have a Freeform and love it. My cob youngster will be broken in it.
 
I bought a Dream Team last year (they were threatening to put the price up then, too!) and have nothing but praise for it, it's really comfey and my fat little cob seems quite happy in it.
