he kept on moving, as didnt know what i was at with measuring tape. he is normally a big lamb, but was a wee chicken when i was measuring him. any way, 4 out of 5 times got 68 inchs which is 5 foot 8inches, but 1 time i got 71 inches which is5 foot 11inches, just under 6 foot. as he is only 2 1/2 yrs old and is in middle of a growth. what size would you go for. i only measure his lenght do you have to measure from wither where top of rug would be to bottom. sorry have never measure for a rug before. i want a waterproof med or light weight not sure as its still warm at min, with a neck that is build in as dont want midges annoying him. thanks in advance

also any rugs you would reccomend.
was think 6 foot might be not much room, but would 6'3 be too big. although he does need growning room. but would it rub him if bit big. you can tell i know nothing about rugs, so thanks a million for help.

Hmm..Do you know anyone with rugs that you might be able to borrow to see how they fit him? I never actually measured my guy, I borrowed a few friends' rugs to try on him, as different styles and makes can fit differently.

hi, my friends are all 14.2hhs or just 15hhs. and i usually have all my horses not rugged as they get great thick winter coats and have plenty of shelter, field shelter and stables. there normally very happy, its just this boy was itching and want to keeep midges of him but want it waterproof.

Also bear in mind brand of rug!!!! I have a 6'9 weatherbeeta fleece, a masta stable rug and an amigo turnout, for my 2 year old! They fit him like a glove, so bought a weatherbeeta landa turnout in a 7' for him to grow into, and it hangs off it by about 9-10 inches!!! Can't work that one out at all!! It might in 2 years time fit him!! But be weary if getting a landa, they come up big!!! I found amigo's good on spindly narrow youngsters. (not sure what type your horse is) otherwise I found shires tempest good on my cob youngster, and not expensive when they do grow out of them!!

Regarding size at 2 I'd go for the bigger size as they will grow!

First, you ought to measure from the centre of his chest, to his hindquarters (an imaginary line from the top of his tail).
Second, if you are buying rugs, they come in 3" increments - and I was always advised to go for one size up, or two if the rug has a tail flap.
So if the horse measures 6ft, I'd probably buy 6'6" in a heavyweight turnout.
Thirdly, when you are checking to see if it fits, check it with his head down in grazing position - I see so many horses who put their heads down to graze and the rug is pulled forward off their bums.
S :D
