What colour tack on a ginger tbx for hunter, hack and riding horse classes? Not looking at showing at a high level, just local shows. I have a black synthetic dressage saddle, and a brown forward cut jumping saddle. Personally i'd prefer to show him in the black, but someone has told me brown is correct. But the brown makes us look like we're going xc....
SO
If I were to go out and buy a straight cut show saddle, should it be in black, or brown??
Help!

It's not going to lose you a class to have either. Brown is preferable, but the dressage saddle would be better for showing the horse's shoulder off so I'd use that.

brown is correct for showing - true a dressage saddle shows off the shoulder better, however if the judge gets to ride, the dont tend to like dressage saddles. catch 22 really!

they don't like them. Working hunter saddles are correct as they show off the shoulder but at the same time judges like and feel comfortable in them.

Brown leather tack is correct plus synthetic is a no no

I showed 3 times last year, each time with my brown close contact synthetic saddle and won - just unaffiliated level ( judge never rode )

On another note I did a Best Turned out and got placed 2nd because tail was not plaited - again clean synthetic and nothing mentioned.

OP I would go with Brown GP saddle..................and just have fun!

I say synthetic - its a wintec isabella werth so its the brushed suede effect, not the awful shiney shiney synthetic.

At this level I know its not the be-all-and-end-all, but when I do something I do want to do it properly! Shape of the dressage suits him better for showing than the shape of the brown leather, but neither saddle I have is suitable for showing in really so looks like i'm on the hunt for a nice havanna show saddle!
Thanks for the speedy replies :)

Thanks Matb, will definitely give it a go!!

Brown and if the judge is riding remember to have wide irons on.

You will struggle to show the horse in hack, riding horse and hunter classes, he will only be one type.

Photo for AA - which classes? any info appreciated :) He's a 16.1 tb x (don't ask what - that's as far as his passport cares to explain!) not a typical twiggy tb, has a bit of bone.

He will not be a Hack, that is for sure. Maybe a hunter class would suit him.

Can't see a picture yet ?

Locally you could do the riding horse and the hunter. All you would need to do is change his browband and noseband.

would a hack be a lighter frame?

And as for changing browbands, is it coloured for riding horse and plain for hunter? (in case you havent already guessed, I am a complete showing newbie!)
