Its seems that certain people are IMO overestimating what horses can carry, an others are being over cautious.

IMO just because a horse can 'manage' a certain weight, it doesnt mean it should! But on the other side some people seem to think anyone ever 12stones shouldnt be riding.

So interested to hear what people think my two can carry?

And I will tell you what they have carried.

Lance:

16.2hh Latvian WB, 9 1/2" of bone, good MW, almost 19 yrs old:

there good solid horses with alot of bone id say they have carried quiet big people, not sure though with beau as he alot younger would he have carried much weight yet !
i couldnt guess though !!

a guy used to own my horse and Im sure he weighed over 15 stone....he wasnt fat more muscles and tall....my horse is 15.3/16hh quarter horse and he coped fine...
I would say anything over 15 stone would be a problem really..
My NF pony could carry up to 11 stone and icelantic/highland ponies can carry weight too...

What a horse can comfortably carry depends on age, muscel tone, confirmation ie long back is weaker, density of bone & breeding. QH's & Arabs have no problems with carrying a mans weight over long distances. The western saddle distributes the weight better, but does not stop a horse very often only 14/14.2 carrying a 12+stone man. Also has been said time & again, some people ride heavier then others. Therefore it has to be judge case on case & no matter how you dress these posts up, they are all the same & are recycling what has been typed time & time again.
