But my fab little Gypsy Cob got 71.3% today!!!

I'm so pleased with him. 2nd test this year, 4th test ever, and even though there was a REALLY scary drip and dark patch in one corner of the indoor, he held it together with just one spook at it, and got nearly all 7.5's!

He's such a star.

No photos unfortunately, but this was him after his bath last week, before his first test of the year where he got 68.9% and second :)

There is no such thing as ONLY intro!!! It's still hard work and we all have to start somewhere. I think that's amazing, well done you and well done very lovely horse.

I've just started a new horse who two months ago could even change the rein in trot let alone do a circle......intro is our level for a while, I can't yet imagine trying to canter a turn on my very unbalanced Clydesdale yet!!!

Thankyou Suki :)

Yes I know what you mean, Casp's canter is still unbalanced. Getting much better and we might do a Prelim or two later in the year, but it really is flying fur and feather at the moment!

It annoys me to hear ' only intro!!' you still have to ride properly!! Previously have ridden up to elementary (unaff) but due to retirement of older horse I have started again on an ex racer. The intros were great as they challenged us enough without having to worry about third gear, and they are very competitive!!
Beautiful horse and very well done!!

Thankyou Charlie :)

I know, I shouldn't say "only", but there are so many amazing riders on this board that although competing is, these days, a big deal to me, I know I have very little to stress about really!

My little cob, bought as a just 5 year old, broken first to drive and then did a tiny bit of hacking, is amazing! I actually bought him to get my confidence back on, with no thoughts of competing beyond the odd in-hand coloured class. I can't believe how well he's doing! And how hard he tries to please, even though he would rather just be left in peace to eat :)

In my opinion intros are hard to do well so fantastic result for you both!
Just as tricky to get the movements as they are so spaced out and anything over 70 you should quite rightly be over the moon :D

Well done!

Thanks Kylara!

I'm so happy with the score. When the lady told me it, I said "I don't think that's mine, have I been mixed up with someone else?" and I genuinely thought there had been a mistake! The red rosette was the icing on the cake, but breaking 70% was the most exciting bit!

First goal for this year now accomplished! Next one is to work towards a decent enough canter that we can attempt some Prelim. If that happens we may start BD at Prelim next year, rather than Intro, which would be easier as our closest Centres like the long arena tests so don't so far seem to be holding Intro's at BD. I'd prefer not to have to travel over 2 hours each way if I don't have to! We have plenty of time to practise :)

Here here!

your pony is so beautiful! Intro is nearly always the most popular class at my local venue so you have to ride well and fend off competition to do well in it! Great achievement.

He is beautiful isn't he! So not my type but I fell in love with his little face :)

Thanks everyone, my head is now even bigger than it was when I started the thread :D

Advert pic of the boy so you can see what I fell in love with and how he's matured -

How cute and gawky was he!

There should be no shame attached to competing at Intro level. Novices/new combinations all start somewhere. It's nice to be able to get some experience without having to canter!

Well done and congratulations on your fab result. :)

Well done! Your cob is lovely too. I just bought a standardbred who does not believe it is possible to trot, (he paces) and has no schooling at all so I am aiming for intro tests in the autumn, after a summer of lessons!

Well done. I think that Intro tests are not that easy. OK, you don't canter (but canter isn't really that difficult) but you do have the half 10m circles in trot which doesn't appear again until Novice level.

Thanks everyone!

Yeah the mane is ridiculous. It will be getting a tidy up as soon as I've found my terrier comb! Whenever we go out we have at least 5 people comment!

Hot Horse Shower and shares in Wahl Diamond White shampoo is what keeps me sane ha ha :D Oh, and a surfaced turnout area for the winter as we're on clay soil!
