1) Do all your haynets at the weekend/day off so that they are ready just to be put in.

2) Do same with feeds in tuppaware boxes. Just add supplements at the time if necessary.

3) Leave turnout rugs on overnight. If they are a bit wet it also dries them quicker.

This is all I can think of at the mo.... any more?

Have a bigger mortgage and buy a house with stables, that way you walk across the patio to give your horse its breakfast while you have yours and there is no driving to the stables twice a day.

You know it makes sense...

1. Semi deep litter & muck out fully once a week.

2. Leave turnout rugs on all night to save time in morning.

3. If you can get away with it, don't feed in the morning.

4. If you have to feed in the morning, skip out / fill haynets whilst they are eating.

5. Get automatic water drinkers if you can.

6. Don't walk empty handed from one end of yard to other.

Clearly I could go on......

I can muck out a full shavings bed whilst my boy has breakfast, granted he's a slow eater and gets lots of food, but atleast the mucking out gets done, and the horse is occupied then ready to go in the field

I find it best to get into a routine, and just do it, dont put things off like going to the muck heap, and run with the wheelbarrow if youre late - very comical

Lead your horse back to the field and push the wheelbarrow at the same time so you haven't got to walk back to fetch it when you poo pick

Buy rubber mats, the best time savers ever

Yup, I use a hay bar and if we are away he won't eat it from a net so it goes on the ground.

I do the same as dwi - push wheelbarrow at same time as horse. I also have rubber mats.

Deep litter.

Put breakfast in his stable, open the door and let him get himself in from the field.

If you feed wet hay, stuff as much as you can in a dustbin so it's rammed in tight and fill with water. Turn upside down to drain and place straight in stable in a large tyre or leave upside down for later as it keeps the hay damp.

Rubber mats.

Muck out straight into empty plastic feed bags and drop off at nearby allottment = no muck heap = no mess.

Balance tub trugs full of muck on your full wheelie to save an extra trip to the muck-heap. Keep as much frequently used stuff as close to your horse as possible. Take leg straps off rugs and use a fillet string. If you change bits to hack/school invest in a clip bridle. Minimise journeys as much as possible ie do horse to/fro work, shop on your way home etc. Have a rota with another livery so you're not up yard twice every day.
