i have a 16.2 11year old who i bought last winter. I went to a fun ride organised by a hunt about a month ago and i got lots of comments on how my horse looked like he would be fantasic out hunting. I have never been hunting before. He was controlable on the fun ride but very hard work for me to keep hold of as i am slight build and 5'3" and he is 16.2 middle to heavy weight! He has a massive bold jump and bags of energy but tbh i dont think i could cope with him out hunting and especially because i have never been and dont know if he has, as we tend to stick to dressage.
So my question is could i/ or how easy would it be to find an experienced rider who would take him out hunting, i mean do people even do this, or am i being daft to think someone would even want to take him??!!
He is really a bit too much of a handful for me but however i think in the right hands he would be fantastic, what i would like really is someone to try him out hunting and give him a bit of experience before i have the confidence or strength to take him myself, so how acheiveable is this?

I am sure that someone from you local hunt would jump at the chance of taking him for you. Give the secretary a ring and discuss it with her saying that you would be interested in going eventually if he goes ok.

we had this once... well we had a horse that needed to be hunted reguarly so we sent him to a semi-pro eventer to hunt and he loved it- he offered to buy the horse (we turned it down- wish we ahdnt now! ). theres loads of pros/semi-pro eventers who hunt and often hunt youngsters/strong/difficult horses... ask around your area etc.
