I've bought a grazing muzzle but before I put it on her, please tell me - does she need it? They've cut the grass in the field but they're talking about moving them to another field to give that field a chance. She's out 24/7 as well. Has anyone got any ideas on excercising her. I took some pictures today, (sorry there's loads)

Have a Ben and Jerry's for getting this far

she has a bit of a tummy, but with a foal at foot that's to be expected. Could you ride her round the field a bit to bring her back into work - are you starting to seperate her and foalie a bit now too so she could do a quick hack?
x

I wouldnt have said she was too fat, you're probably doing good by limiting her now thought before she does, means you dont have to have the muzzle on 24/7! she looks nice, do you do much riding with her??

she is a bit podgey i love the pic from her bum its as if shes saying oi oi mum what are you doing back there hehe what grazing mask have you got i got one of those plastic one and my mare nearly killed her self she got it half off and her tongue got stuck over the top of it she was froffing and there was blood thank god my YO lives on site and has enough about him to go and check her and sort her out if she is in danger

She is a little bit porky, but I guess she has just had a foal (unless that gorgeous little baby belongs to someone else!) so it will take a while for her to get her figure back
grin.gif
I did just want to say (hope you don't mind) to keep an eye on her face. Like my mare she has a very pink nose and it looks as though it might just start to get a little sore if we have a few more sunny days.......

Lovely mare though and very adorable baby.

Honestly? No I wouldn't say she was fat at all. She is nursing and has a broodmare belly, but she looks fine to me.

What a lovely mare and foal ,of course.Who is the foal by?
Is her crest hard as it does seem a bit full.Be careful if you are putting a grazing muzzle on, as the foal could get caught in it. She will need a lot of calories at the moment to produce milk so I shouldn't worry too much.

Considering she's a Mum she looks fine to me, does she drop weight easily going into the winter or is she a good doer?

[/ QUOTE ]

She doesn't drop weight at all in the winter and she's a good doer and is nearly always the same weight really as I keep her active. But this is the first time were she been inactive for months.

This was her in July 2006 just to give you an idea of what she looked like.

Thanks GabbY8tIa He's only 7 weeks old so I don't want to seperate them just yet. I've tried 'chasing' her around the field just to get her moving, but then I feel awful and have to give her a hug
smile.gif
I have her saddle and bridle all clean and ready to go though and would love to hack her, but he tends to get under her feet a bit, so I'll wait for him to get older.

My thoughts as well but she's never worn anything like it before and I'd love another option. I stopped riding her when she was 8 months in foal but I was only walking her for the last few months. Before that she was in full work.

I would say she is okay as she is feeding a foal, I wouldn't like to see a muzzle on a mare who had a foal at foot ...

[/ QUOTE ]

That's what the stable guy said as well when he saw me with the muzzle.

What a lovely mare! I think she is fine considering she has a baby to feed. I wouldn't put a muzzle on her at all - how would she groom her baby?

Oh your poor mare

I'm glad she's alright

This one is a nylon one with a plastic front and one little hole. She's be checked everyday anyway and I do be up nearly everyday. BUt after reading these comments, I'll spare her the muzzle and just try to get her excercing more

Her poor nose is just recovering from the last spell of sun

I've a combination of sun cream and sudocreme to put on her! But she hate's it and Bandit just ends up covered in it

When I look at her I see her belly and I think OMG she's huge! Then I'm not sure if it's fat or a grass belly!

She has a bit of a 'mummy tummy' is all - her neck, shoulders & bottom etc. look fine, rather good for this time of year actually! lol

Thanks, he's by Huntingfield Rebel

I've tried her crest and it feels kind of firm but to be honest I'm not sure what I'm feeling for! I was worried about the foal swinging out of her new head gear as he does pull out of her headcollar!

I don't think she is fat!
I think she is very clever for producing such a yummy foalie
grin.gif

I love that 3rd pic, it looks as if she's saying 'does my bum look big?'

[/ QUOTE ]

Thanks The_Stropster she was a bit worried with me back there - she was AI'd so I don't think she trusts anyone back there anymore LOL!

He is really sweet and loves his bum scratched

Mummy tummy - I like that

She only had the foal 7weeks ago - so no not fat AT ALL poor girl getting all that slack when shes just had a baby lol its like the size zero of the horse world. She looks lovely, her and foal are a credit to you, so don't rush her into losing weight or getting fit, let her enjoy being a mum xx

[ QUOTE ]
She looks good in that piccie, once she's back into work she'll loose her mummy belly

Thanks CastleMouse - I suppose that's how I've always seen her and it's weird seeing her now with weight on. In that photo she was just back from her 30 day scan!
