top tips for diets that actually work, please. i need to lose about 1/2 a stone. i am a sugaroholic, and crave chocolate and sweet things.
i've just ordered the India and Nerys Idiot-Proof diet book, i've been doing the food combining/hay diet for a while, i've tried Atkins and various others.
i'd expect to get stoned to death if i went to weight-watchers, so any other tips very gratefully received, please.

I think, in terms of 'losing' half a stone that rather than a diet per se you need to look at lifestyle (in terms of type and intensity of exercise), and diet more generally. I am not sure a diet plan will help long term...but that is just my personal opinion.....

You need to eat foods with a low glycaemic ( sp) index which releases sugar very slowly and therefore you wont crave sugar and chocolate.
Suitable way to start the day is porridge with honey, followed by say a grilled chicken with salad for lunch, then say fish potates and veg for supper. Then snack on things like ryvita and rice cakes.
Fruit are not necessarily good for you as they have a high G.I but lots of green veg is better.

If you drink 2 or 3 cups of tea a day with 2 sugars, you could lose a pound a month just by drinking water instead...

It sounds as if you just need to do some fine tuning eg a bit more exercise or smaller portions, rather than doing a proper 'diet'...

Lots of fibre and plenty of juicey fruit (always good for sugar cravings) and exercise. IMO the best diet is everything in moderation, plenty of fresh fruit and veg, and regular exercise - it all comes down to lifestyle. Don't deny yourself that piece of chocolate cake but go for a run for example before hand or only have a little piece. Easy!

Im doing Neris and Indias diet.... you'll easily loose half a stone on it, I've lost 2 stone already!

Only problem is sugar is totally banned in any form on the diet so you might struggle with that!

I am having great success with Paul McKenna's "I can make you thin" book and CD.

He deals with all kinds of cravings and stuff.

If you go on a diet you just as well be saying "I am going to get fatter"

A stick insect would look fat in cream jodhs! I'm sure you aren't in the least bit fat, but if you really want to lose a bit of weight, tone up etc in a short space of time - go running! Works wonders! (just don't do my speciality and say to yourself 'I've been running - it's FINE for me to eat this whole chocolate cheescake with cream and bottle of wine.....' ummmmmmmmm....

I have lost half a stone in about 4 weeks which I am happy with. I did this by not eathing cheese (which I loveeeeee!!!), using skimmed milk instead of semi skimmed. Use UHT skimmed and you can't tell the difference - honest. Still eat crisps but eat the ones with lower fat - quavers, french fries. Not eaten half as many take ways or chips. Not really lived off salads but tried to have salad instead of chips. Each omlettes filled with mushrooms, onions, courgettes, peppers. Filling. No points in any of the veg and only 1.5 point per egg!! Yep I went to WW. Still had the odd chocolate bar and still had a glass of wine (or 2) at night aswell. Only another 6 pounds to go and reach my target weight.

I would bet you need to tone up, rather than lose weight - and that toning may even incur a weight GAIN, but toned is better than light and wobbly

Power walk everywhere!
I go to the gym now, and power walk x2 of 20 minutes with incline.
I also work out on the x trainer.

Drink 2 ltrs of water a day.

I was hypnotised and no longer eat chocolate after being addicted to it for years - im talking (8-10 chocolate bars a day).

I will eat a caramac, which is 167 calories occasionally.

I really enjoy the gym because I go with a friend, plus some of the fitties in there keep me motivated its also a great social thing.

Paul McKenna works too, but I managed to throw out accidentally my CDs so will buying them again.

I find reading whilst eating and chewing every mouthful 20 times really helps and stop eating when im full.
