Several people have been asking how the Donks is doing, so for an update here's our weekend show report!

After all this rain I thought everything around us would be cancelled so was amazed when I called and a local show was going ahead (much to Donkey's disgust!) So Saturday armed with loads of hot water she was bathed and scrubbed and tucked up in bed.

Sunday am - plaited and a quick tail wash and she loaded first attempt - repeat loaded straight into the trailer and off I trundled with a friend in tow. I was amazed at how firm the ground was, I had visions of being towed on and off.

Quick brush of the Donks - who has decided to moult (if this is her winter coat coming through she is in big trouble ) quarter marked and into best groomed in hand class - where we came 2nd - I was amazed as last time at this show it was the neds with the white bits that won.

Then into Hunter type in hand - Again 2nd (by now the sun is shining full tilt and Donkey is bored!)

Into the Open in hand - where after a lack lustre trot up - 'I'm bored don't make me do this again Mum' look we were pulled in 2nd - my initial amazement was quickly dispelled when the judge apologised he'd mistaken us for someone else!!

Donkey looks fab and I as always have my eyes shut!

Ridden classes, we have introduced a little colour for our Ridden Horse class - a browband!! Not that it made any difference - she was Donkey - no amount of leg would get her forward going and we only achieved 5th place. Quick change of browbands - so not only do I need a new saddle but I need a 2nd hunter double bridle as it is a real faff changing browbands!!!! Into hunter class where again the lack lustre Donkey only pulled off a 3rd. Judge suggested I looked at what I was feeding her to increase her energy and eyes widened when I told him she was on tiger oats, red cell and trialing a new product plus loads of hill work!!!!

Arrived home and the little sod galloped across the field to see her beloved friend Sparkle - and then sagged and rolled....

Oh bless her I think that last photo needs to be printed and put up in your house somewhere it's just fantastic made me go awwwwww (and now everyone at work thinks I've lost the plot even more than usual).

She keeps on bringing home those ribbons doesn't she.

Marius_Mum was telling me that it is the fashion to keep the mane cut short in the UK, so I guess that is obligatory for showing. We leave all our manes & tails long as our neds are out 7/7 & they need them for sun, rain & fly protection.

She looks wonderful as ever.

Out of interest - how long would you say it is between going in to a class and her having access to hay??

Tend to remove hay 15 mins before class, mostly to keep her mouth clean - I don't think it is the hay that is slowing her down - if I get an hour break between classes I give her a tiny feed of tiger oats - instant energy?? Nope. She just takes life at her own pace and is phased by very little.

Hi there.

She looks amazing and well done on the results!!!

My old ned was a slow coach too - he was also prone to tie up so wasn't able to be fed high amounts of cereals. We changed to a fibre diet with quite a bit of oil. The oil was good for his energy and he did get a bit quicker although you'd never call him forward going!!! Not sure you can try that?

Well done again! And yes - the final picture is just CUTE!
