OK this is going to sound wierd and it is purely for cosmetic reasons but I am interested none the less...

I bought some Mark Todd event grease for Queenie now she is eventing at novice level. However, the grease is white, and she is very white! So you can't see it, which makes it tricky when putting the stuff on cos you genuinely can't see where you have and haven't put it!
I will buy the blue stuff next time, but for the time being, would you be able to add food dye to the white grease?! What would happen? Would it mix or not? I was thinking of adding pink food dye, to go with our colours...

I may experiment with a small amount later and see what happens

i could be very wrong but if you use pink food dye and it mixes with the grease/her fur/sweat you might end up with pink legs for a while after the event!!

ETS - your horse will have pink legs not you - oops

i'd be more tempted to mix a tiny bit of powder with it, such as ash, so it goes grey. wouldn't stain, and will make it show up.
i don't think food colouring would work as it's water-based and the good greases are oil-based (i think)

I think most food colourants are water based and unless you can find an oil based dye it won't mix.

You need to find a powdered dye if you want it to mix into the grease - but be careful it doesn't contain anything that is banned (so don't use any sort of pepper like cayenne).

Have to say, having a white horse, I would have thought anything that could die the grease would also leave you with coloured legs!!!
Cooling gel I get blue/green legs!!

It might be rather an expensive option, but could you use something like loose eye shadow powder?

I've got visions now of a grey going xc with Barry M dazzle dust mixed in the grease, with coloured glittery legs

My grease is blue so really shows up on my grey as you can see below. I didnt plan this, it just happened to be that colour! Can't remember what kind it is, its only cheap stuff. I think its Carr Day Martin.
