So I decided to bite the bullet and once my boys upset tummy had settled, I tried him on some prime choice raw chicken with rice.

He absolutely loved it and the good news is, despite him having a very sensitive tummy, he didn’t show any signs of digestive issues!

So, I’m going to buy some more and try him on it for a couple of weeks, mixed with his usual diet of cooked chicken and rice. The packet suggests adding vegetables to the diet also – carrots etc. Do many of you do this? I’m assuming you just boil them and mix them in with the meat?

The pack also mentioned possibly heating the meat? Again, do many people do this?

Plan is to stick with the prime choice for now as he’s been known to suddenly change his mind about what he’ll eat and I don’t want to place a big order for natural instinct only for him to decide after a week he’d rather have cooked chicken!

Sorry for all the questions!

Raw is just that- raw. i wouldn't be adding anything cooked to the diet at all (except variety, bones and offal), and i wouldn't be heating it!!

I've never heated it or deliberately added vegetables. I would give a frozen carrot every once in a while or last week I had some out of date veg soup and stew so I just threw that into a bowl uncooked with a chicken carcass on top!! Dog is a dustbin :p

Nope never heat anything.
Only rice etc mine get is left overs.

Except the time I defrosted tripe on the microwave, my advice is dont do it, it's not an easy smell to get rid of.

Have you researched the diet?? As in knowing the difference between BARF and Prey model?

What type dog are you feeding. Go to butchers and ask for chicken carcass which is 50p / kg at mine. supermarkets sell cheap chicken wings. Which alone can be a good diet for a few weeks to see how he goes.

I'm totally new to RAW feeding and need to do a bit more research. I know that the feed I'm using is based on the BARF model.

I'm very reluctant to feed chicken wings or anything with bones in it as he does dent to inhale his food and I'd be worried about him choking - I know lots of people do it successfully but I'd be too worried to do it.

Dog is a 12 year old cross breed - there is lab in there somewhere but that's all we know. He has arthritis, cataracts and a heart murmur but otherwise extremely fit and healthy but know to have a sensitive tummy.

It's unlikely that he's going to keel over if you don't feed veg or bones, I'd just keep plugging away with the Prize Choice and Natural Instinct, the latter has bone content ground up in some of the mixes.
