Have been, for the past 8 months, slowly bringing myself and my old mare (21yrs) back into work after breaking my back 3 years ago. Have recently had a couple of canters in the field and some very light schooling work which she was never a massive fan of. Was getting a bit worried because she seemed very reluctant to canter on the left leg and alsorts of thoughts about leg/pain issues were going through my head. Yesterday I decided to get a pole out and just walk and trot over it just for a bit of variety, mmm, think again. Sideways into the turn, ears in my face, NO issues re canter on the left rein, jump the pole and finish with a buck! The little madam thinks she's 5 again! Have to say though very happy as she obviously thoroughly enjoyed herself and is by no means over the hill. Also pleased because a few months ago this kind of incident would have left me quaking in my boots and instead I couldn't stop grinning and laughing at her!
