A relative has taken in an elderly dog. Basically it was living in someones car. They have removed her from the situation but cannot keep long term.

Will approach charities but as they are bursting at the seems, figured worth asking on here.

Dont know much. She is a black dog, elderly all grey round the muzzle, maybe GSD x. Am told she is polite around food, sweet enough on the lead and settled just fine in their home with their three other dogs. Quiet.

We are down south. Hampshire area. If anyone has any recommendations on charities or anyone who may have her.

The cinnamon trust? They take on a lot of older animals when owners die/go into a home that doesn't accept pets. They've been very good in my experience at rehoming them- they send them out as foster animals so the cinnamon retains ownership, pays all veterinary bills, but the animals get a proper home. They do also have a sanctuary for animals that cannot be fostered for whatever reason.

I don't know if the cinnamon trust take "all dogs". I think you have to arrange it with them prior to your becoming unable to care? You register with them and I would guess pay a sum of money to secure their future?
We had a lovely old girl from them - an ugly ginger old girlie likely a staff/lab/australian shepherd cross!! She was brilliant and had had a horrible life. I would have another from them happily. If they will take him he will do well. They do care.

Cinnamon Trust only take dogs from people who are terminally ill or have died.I have registered my dog with them.
I would also suggest the Oldies Club

PL I hope you have your dog for many years to come but if the worst happens my experience of CT was excellent. We took Breeze from them and they still keep in touch some years after she died. I believe her old owner would have been happy to see her with us and happy with the life and love she had from all our family. They were very careful how they placed her and we did not get to choose which dog we wanted, they spoke to us and asked our likes/dislikes etc, met our other dog and then offered us Breeze as they felt she fitted us best - they were spot on. I hope it gives you peace of mind for the future x
I really hope that lovely old boy finds a good home. I am tempted but have a couple of active terriers and I think we are not the right fit at the moment.
