Hi,

Before my first ever days hunting (bit hazy as to when that was, I must have been under 10) my parents gave me a very old pocket sized book on the etiquette of hunting. I remember being very scared that I wouldn't remember the right words to shout if I saw a fox whilst lining out.

I was wondering if this language and etiquette are or were still being used? I hunted regularly throughout my childhood and still pop out occasionaly and have never heard any of these sayings. (Obviously a lot of them are not needed any more as of the stupid ban)

Oh and if anyone has any clue about what the ancient book I had was I would love to know as I have lost it and can't remember what it was.

what i love about hunting is that it probably is still EXACTLY the same - when out cubbing and lining a covert we shout (sounds like - dont know how to spell it ) 'eye eye eye eye eye' or 'eye eye charlie'...if you look in any old hunting etiquette book - the language and etiquette is exactly the same - think that is what is so enchanting about hunting!!

When fox breaks covert in 'old terms' I believe the correct term to aleart staff would have Been 'View Halloo' (god knows how thats spelt), and there are still other random curtocies used in modern hunting, of course the 'good morning' and good evening to the masters, a thank you sir to the huntsman.

Thats the term I couldn't remember LOL. Never heard anyone shout it though, most people seem to stand around chatting and not paying much attention (myself included!)
