Well as the title says I'm a old member returning. I have been out of the horse hobby for a long time, I haven't been actively around horses since I was 16 sadly (now I'm 30!).

I do miss being around horses, I still buy horse magazines and watch some horsey sports (when they are rarely on!).

I think back to when I started riding at the age of 7 and always wished I could have been one of those girls/boys that were apart of a Pony Club, my parents couldn't afford to get me a Pony, it's also the reason why I stopped riding was because they couldn't afford to pay for me to ride, even as am adult nothing has really changed, I still can't afford it.

But I keep saying to myself when I'm older (though I dont like the thought of being older, haha) and my children have flown the nest I will hopefully be in a position where I can finally live my dream of owning a horse...or two...well horse number one will need a friend 😄.

I never realised I would be writing such a long thread at this time in the morning, hopefully I haven't bored anyone.

Hello and welcome to the forum.
I think there are ways you can get involved whilst not spending lots.
Do you have a riding for the disabled branch nearby? They would welcome volunteers ready to learn and help out.
If you have a local competition centre you could volunteer as a dressage writer (there's practice stuff on the British dressage website so you can have a virtual go)
Don't assume you can only have lessons weekly, there's nothing wrong with monthly to help with the finances. If you can re-establish the basics you may find someone looking for a share or some help keeping an older horse going.

Life is too short for waiting, find a way to make it happen today.

I second the suggestion above about volunteering with RDA, I started doing just that over 30 yrs ago and, apart from making long-lasting friendships, it has led on to my doing all sorts of horsey stuff. And provided me with some very knowledgeable advice about my own horses. Your local RC might welcome non-riding members who can help behind the scenes.

I was like you as a child OP, no money at all for lessons so i mucked out at a yard in return for a few and grabbed them over the years wherever i could. Later in life i helped my SIL with her beautiful ex police horse and he graciously allowed a rubbish rider to slowly improve on him but it took until i was 43 to finally have my own and it really was a dream come true. If you are serious i'm sure you could find somebody near you desperate for some help with their horses and who knows where that could lead.
Oh, and welcome to the forum :):)

There are a few people in my yard with semi retired oldies who they would live someone to give them a fuss and maybe take them for a short ride along the road and back but the average person looking for a horse share wants to do more than that. I advise getting involved with the horse world by any means possible so you meet people and maybe a situation will come your way.

Hello! Echo the above about getting involved :biggrin3:
I was another pony mad but ponyless child like you and I'm still reliving those childhood dreams - a year ago I bought the connemara pony had always wanted as a kid!
