Got a call when I was on my way home today. D2 had a Rottie run across the road to join her and two of our dogs.

Collar but no disc. Piece of old string tied to collar. Nobody in sight (it's a long, straight piece of road).

Greying around the muzzle. A skin condition across his back. Something on ear tip. Friendly. Light, but not bony.

Cold, dark and wet here. D2 rang the police, who told her to either let him go or keep him in the garden :confused:

He's in the bike shed (it's big, dry, and off the ground), with vet beds and water. Bit wary of feeding due to the skin condition, but will obviously have to give him something in the morning. Thinking the blandest and lightest thing we have is Waggs (the bag that came with the pup), or there is Pedigree complete.

So, who do we call in the morning? RSPCA? The Dog Trust? So far the police have been no use :(

Thank you! I knew you guys would know what to do :). D is not too happy because of the pup, but we couldn't just let the lad go again, not on a night like this, not that we would anyway, but you know what I mean.

I just had a quick look on DogLost, can't see a rottie on the first couple of pages but he may have been missing for a while. Perhaps you could put his details on the found section.

The first port of call should be the dog warden or hand him into a local vet and they will have him taken by the dog warden but it's not the best place for the dog sadly.....your other options would be to hang onto him (easier said than done) and try and exhaust a few local rescues or find his home in that space of time.

Thank you C. I feel a bit blah about handing him to the dog warden, but that's because I'm ridiculously soft. It would be madness to keep a dog such as him when we have little dogs, a pup, cats, and children (albeit mid-teens children!).

D would not be impressed with me if I said I wanted to keep him if we couldn't find his owner. Still, we'll worry about that one later.

I'll put some signs up tomorrow and contact the breed rescue people.

What a shame for the poor old boy, hope he is reunited with his owner or at least united with a lovely new person, good for you for looking after him! Can't believe they advised you to let him go though, never mind he was running about on a road?!

Poor boy.

If he is not claimed would you take him in?? I loved having a oldie here, perfect sofa warmer, doesnt require much from you other than cuddles and food. DO NOT post pictures on here. I will not be responsible for my actions and my OH would chuck me out lol.
