I have a old english made saddle stamped made in walsall. Do you think its worth selling? I havea photo but dont know how to post it on here.

Worth a go on ebay if it is in sound condition and safe to use, check out some of the ads on there first so you have an idea of what to include to make it a good listing.

I wouldnt bother with ebay at the moment. I have been trying to sell my Lovatt and Ricketts saddle for ages its an older one used but in fair condition.

I am going to go and put a advert up in the tack shop.

Have a look on facebook there are local horse swap/ sell shops on there now. HHO has one but for some reason the link is no longer working.

I had a dressage saddle in darker of this make I tried selling it last year it was in excellent condition for it's age just one tiny scuff on the pommel. I couldn't sell it I tried it on e bay 3 times and it would not sell, I ended up virtually giving it away to someone I knew.

Thanks, can you tell what make it is from the photo? all it says is made in walsall England there is a plate for the maker but its not readable.
I know itsquite old but it is in goo condition as far as I can tell.

I am not keen on selling on ebay due to the fees etc. Might give it a try in local tack shop etc if people think its worth selling.

Could you do a trade at a saddlers for something else you need? We've done that before and got a couple hundred pounds trade in price for similar :)

Thats a good idea! Thanks, just wanted to see if people thought it was worth anything as I have no idea really. Might take it to saddlers and see what they say

I don't think Ebay is the best for selling old saddles at all! However, if you can find a yard that does a lot of breaking and schooling they may snap your hand off.
I have an even older, 1/2 panel saddle that is at least 35 years old (probably when 'spring' trees first came out). God knows who made it, it's stamped 'Walsall', but it fits almost everything (so far, the only one it hasn't fitted was a very flat backed Fell). I doubt if it would make a tenner on Ebay but I've been offered £80 for it several times from a lady that does a lot of breaking etc.
I won't sell it though, as it holds sentimental memories!

yes mine has memories attached too, it was my old mares who was pts two years ago. I was going to keep it but its just sat in the shed so thought I might see if anyone could use it, if not will keep it but seems a shame really.

I just bought a saddle [Jeffrries] quite old but little used, paid £230 inc postage of only £10! Ebay, but only two bidders. Buy it now price was £250, They did not mention it was a fair age [I had one very similar which I bought in 1973!], but in lovely used condition and all recently flocked and no repairs needed. Non spring tree.
Came via UPS so had full tracking, as I had to alter delivery address, which I did on-line, and it was delivered 18 minutes before I checked its tracking the next day!

I tried an old one of mine (fieldhouse) on ebay a year or so ago, I got offered £140 at the time, but I thought it was worth a bit more so didn't sell. I've since been offered £100 for it so should really have accepted it when I had the chance!

Im really not sure what mines worth if anything, its not in bad condition for age and would be great for some one breaking a youngster etc. I think I will give it a try and see if not will keep it.Thanks for the replys

I Had mine with a £50 reserve that it didnt make on ebay. Id happily take £100 to cover the reflocking 18months ago tbh. But its not budging its on preloved too. I think people just don't have the spare cash atm.

There are people who will buy old saddles but however well made with decent leather the design has moved on massively in recent years and old style saddles really dont fit well (banana trees, hard panels, narrow gullets). Probably wont stop someone from buying it though!

No must admit I wouldn't buy a saddle off Ebay, as the saddle could be 1) crap 2)not fit, that is why I always buy a saddle to fit my horse from a saddler and why I have several saddles up in my loft, one of which is a rarely used Stubben, that at the time cost an arm and a leg. The saddles were bought to fit my horses, and unless you can say the saddle will fit x,y and z, it wont sell.

Yes I realise it is quite old but it always fitted my mare well and i would be willing for someone to try it to see if it fits. I dont mind keeping it really just thought Id give it a go. It may help someone out.

I've just sold a saddle on ebay... Got 230 for it. It is an old but in good nick english leather saddle ... So they do sell. (I wanted 100 so am a bit chuffed!)
