A horse has extensive scarring on both hind legs after an adventure with barbed wire. It's old and completely healed, scars are black and smooth.
Is there any chance of any hair regrowing over the scarring or are the hair bulbs gone and there is no chance?
Camrosa?? Other products??

Megatek is brilliant - I think it is called "Hair Restorer" its the only thing that helped when Farmkey gave one of my horses a bald mark on the saddle area (no I did not want one) and the hair folicles had been burned away.

I think it is called equiss? If you google megatek it should bring it up. It is about £20 for a bottle but I use it on hooves etc as well. Have had 1 bottle for almost 18 months now and still going.

Think the company is called www.tailgator.co.uk (from memory).

Otherwise I have heard people use cornucrescine but it is quite messy - megatek is white and dries clear. It is great for scrapes as well (my horses are very accident prone!). Lots of showing people use it as it really incourages long thick manes etc.

Probably useless for your needs but I think its quite interesting/funny? I bought my daughters pony about 12 months ago, in his desciption it stated a blemish under his right eye hence lower price.

Went to look anyway, I was told that he had had quite a nasty kick/injury below the eye about 5 yrs ago which had resulted in this totally bald area about 5cm square(I confirmed this with his vet). They had been covering it with boot polish for shows! As he was black and it didn't show too much we bought him.

A month or so after I noticed that it tended to look a little dry and flakey occassionally andalthough it didn't bother the pony I did a little experiment and applied a small amount of my babies exzma cream..it seemed to moisturise nicely...but not only that after a week or so the hair started to grow back! After a month or so the hair was fully grown back and has been fine since! The cream had a VERY low amount of steroid in it so maybe it was that?!

It was a mixture of Double base( a really heavy oily moisturiser) and Elocon ( low % steroid cream). I mixed it probably 80% moisturiser 20% Elocon!

You can buy both over the counter at good chemists.

I should get it bottled...I could make a fortune!lol

I think on actual scar tissue you will be unlikely to get hair regrowth as there are no follicles for hair to grow out of.

You would be able to get hair to grow on normal but bald areas as the follicles are just dormant.

Suppose anything is worth a try though... My favourite is cornucrescine..... and it smells devine

That's what I thought but as you said it's worth having a go

I was wondering if there is anything I can do for my boy's mane, he has had mild sweet itch and after one particularly bad scratch (one night!) part of his mane has never grown back properly - there are a few hairs which grow out of this part but hardly any and they are very short - whereas the rest of his mane is very thick and long. I think the follicles may have been permenantly damaged?

I show hom and it doesn't seem to have affected our results, I have worked hard to get hom going well and thankfully the judges seem to look through the hair and judge the horse, however I would love to get this to grow back.

It is also compounded by the fact it is in the 'normal' hair loss area, ie the 'rug rub' or 'riders hands' area.

I have never been able to turn him out rugless or neck cover less before due to the Sweet Itch but since discovering Skratch (Global Herbs) it seems to have disappeared ;D ;D

I have tried Megatek previously and it didn't seem to work for me, however at present I am trying this with Pig oil to try to strengthen what is there and make it grow longer, I have taken all neck covers off and he is allowed to get dirty!! The pig oil seems to be stopping the mud from sticking!

I am really interested in trying that eczema steroid cream!

I doubt the hair will grow back now, - you could try Cornuscrescine but I'd be surprised if it works!!!
