OL Licencing Champion
Catalogue No. 18
Furst Heinrich x Donnerhall x Classiker x Weltmeister
Out of St Pr/El St Maradonna, full sister to the dam of last years champion stallion 'Sieger Hit' (Sandro Hit), this dam also produced a Dimaggio licenced stallion last year.
Not for sale through the auction. This stallion was bought as a foal in the elite auction in 2006 for 110,000 euros.

OS Licencing Champion
Catalogue No. 66
Last Man Standing x Contender x Lorenz x Cor de la Bryere
Really fantasic horse, lovely modern type, very keen in the loose jumping, making a super shape with quick reflexes and very tidy with front and back legs. Sold 'officially' 1.15 million, unofficially alot less than that.

OL Premium stallions
1a Furst Heinrich x Donnerhall x Classiker x Weltmeister
1b Sir Donnerhall x Rubin-Royal x In Extenso x Castro (really nice, super mover)
1c Dimaggio x Landadel x Furst x Vierzehnender xx (very nice stallion, big active movement, very good canter, great type)
1d Sir Donnerhall x Painter's Row xx x Rubinstein I x Absinth (quite close behind)
1e Sandro Hit x Donnerhall x Feldherr x Grundyman xx (full brother to Sir Donnerhall, photo in catalogue does him no justice, he was lovely type and amazing mover, more substantial than Sir Donnerhall)
1f Florencio I x Sion x Figaro x Goldstern
1g Chambertin x Landadel x Fruhlingstraun II x Sinus xx
1h Stedinger x Rohdiamant x Veritas aa x Zeus (very good hind leg, lots of flexion, good mover, with a lovely type although more substantial)
1i Carthago x Cotinue x Pilot x Waldlowe (good jump, but the type didn't do anything for me, long in back, croup high(could just be growing) short in croup with a high set tail, sausage like body, will be interesting to see him at 5/6 yrs to see how much is just him growing and whether he deepens etc, he is owned by schockemohle perhaps why he made it into the premium lot).
1j Furst Heinrich x Welt Hit I O x Guter Stern x Effekt (nice type, very model like, good mover and correct but imo not exciting in the movement)

OS Premium Stallions
1a Last Man Standing x Contender x Lorenz x Cor de la Bryere
1b Chacco-Blu x Pino II x Polydor X Matrox (a lot like his father in looks, good technique, tidy with legs, carefull too. He did have one down due to being bought in too slowly and too calmly, he tried and was honest but just didn't have enough to get over and leave it up, bought round again and although he lost a little bit of confidence he was brave and jumped beautifully)
1c Argentius x Exorbitant xx x Ahorn Z x Merengo (really nice, lovely type, quite substantial, huge shape but didn't rush and was calm and carefull)

The Daddy cool x Caprimond x Argentan x Wicht, was stuning i really liked him a lot! Great movement, lovely model, not a great set of neck though which was a shame, i was surprised he didn't make it into the premium lot as their were others who again weren't completely but excelled in other areas justifying their possition as a premium stallion.

It is interesting to see the stallions at the trot up on hard ground and to look at then walking and trotting towards and away rather than just from the side, also, i think your opinion changes on some stallions as the time goes on and some stand out straight away which again is quite interesting.

The introduction of lunging on the first day was quite difficult for some of the stallions, they were fine in trot but quite a few of them really strugled with canter on a fairly small circle esp in an exciting environment, but it was interesting to see their temprements when asked the question of being lunged when under pressure.

The running loose and free jumping is always good and sometimes you see some surprises, and horses aren't what you expected in both good/bad ways, but overall it was again very interesting and a pleasure to watch.

Despite the respect earned for these great stallions, i couldn't help but feel a little sadness for the fact that the horses that did well would have more of a chance of spending the next however many years in their stables (although this is fairly normal in germany i think it is worse for the stallions because of their value and fear of injurey etc) when although they look so grown up they are only young, and although we can't have testosterone fueled colt flouncing around, life does get quite serious quite quickly for these boys. However that is the industry and i guess there are ups and downs.

OS Main Premium
1a Collado, Cassini I x Landgraf I x Cor de la Bryere
1b Carenzo, Calido I x Freedom x Gardestern (we have a mare in foal to him, so it was really nice to see him up for a main premium as they are selected on both their own sporting achievements and on they produce)

OL Main Premium
1a San Amour, Sandro Hit x Plasir D'Amour x Figaro (i love him, i like him more every time i see him and esp because he produced something so nice out of our mare Waikiki, but to be fair to Kiki she has also produced a licensed Oldenburg stallion (by Sandro Hit so she's a pretty good mummy too)
1b Swarovski, Sandro Hit x Don Gregory x Rubinstein I (really nice stallion and i saw some lovely foals from him at the sprehe foals show and branding event and they were good movers, but esp they were all lovely elegant types)
1c Rosandro, Rosario x Sandro Hit x Espri (he was alot prettier than you would expect from a Rosario, maybe he took from SH on this, but he was a little but shorter in the limb and a little bit heavier in type, less elegant than the SH stallions he was with, but still a lovely horse, just different and he really moved.

Edited to say, not a mini report as title says, actually quite a long one, LOL!!

Really interesting, thanks so much! When I went on to the links that you provided for the catalogue there was so much there that I just loved, that it was a bit like being a greedy kid in a sweetshop!

Especially liked no. 66, (Last Man Standing) as you say he's a gorgeous chap - I wonder how you keep track of youngsters that you have marked as of future interest if they get sold?

Thanks again for really interesting report ...

Super report thank you. The Argentinus x Exorbitant colt was the one I loved from what i could watch on the live streaming.

And good to hear nice things about the Swarovski foals as given I dont like Sandro Hit, I do seem to be very drawn to Swarovski

Thanks for that very interesting

Hows your boy getting on?

He's doing well

, finished his performance test so should be home in february hopefully, we have a couple of mares we want to start early with next year so don't want to leave in to much longer than that really. He's just continuing his training until then and we've got to get a dvd and photo's made for stud stuff etc. He's definatly looking like a stallion now, much more so than when i saw him in july, quite bizarre when you've seen them born, to see them all grown up looking, lol!

The Argentinus was lovely and made a super shape over a fence, he took alot from his sire, he was produced by the guy who's got our stallion. I think he deserved to be more than the 31k in the auction.

I like Swarovski, for our Weltruhm mare that we tend to breed to SH (it has worked well on her so far and she has a very good hind leg so we keep doing it

) blood then i would choose San Amour, but thats only because she is quite old fashioned and San Amour is very elegant and has really refined her. I like all of the Swarovski foals i saw at the sprehe show and he had quite a few selected for the elite foal auction which Uwe at sprehe said is quite a big deal for them. I would definatly consider using him if i had a suitable mare.

Sprehe said they were very pleased with his foals when we went in February. It's funny as when he came out of his box he didnt wow me. there was nothing wrong with him but he lacked presence. Then I watched the video of their stallion show and I loved him!

Do you know who bought the Argentinus colt as he is one I'd like to keep an eye on

Not sure who bought it, but i'll ask when i ring about otto and let you know where he'll be going (if they know where he is going to).
I felt similarly to you about swarofski, he seems to come alive when under saddle, but other than that is quite unasuming looking, which is cute but not wow on first impressions when looking over the door.

Out of interest and without being rude to them but did many of the stallions catch you're eye when you were at Sprehe? Personally I left the yard a few years ago quite flat over a lot of the stallions. In relation to the number of stallions thay had only 2 stallions stood out at that time.

The ones at Sprehe the one I really liked was Stalpsyo, oozed presence, just fabulous looking. He moves and jumps and I do like the Stakkato line. We plan to use him next season.
Lehmann I liked as a stamp, very like londonderry, neat and elegant, but his movement then disappointed me.
Sanyo I liked a lot. Much prettier in the flesh than in their catalogue. Short coupled, and long legged and they say he passes that onto his foals. As a coloured stallion he ticked a lot of boxes for me.
And as I said Swarovski disappointed me when we saw him there. He was black and pretty but didnt excite me at all. But I liked him on video.

Hi,
The video clips of the champion stallions are now up, and more will come in the next couple of days. Please go to: www.oldenburghorse.com

The clips are up on the News page.

And one correction on the initial report. The price of Le Champ Ask was officially and "unofficially" 1.1 Million Euro. These auctions are public auctions which follow German and European law. The prices cannot under any circumstances be negotiated before or after the bidding by anyone. 1.1 Million Euro is an unbelievable price, but it is what Sutteri Ask will pay (plus taxes and commision of course).

Enjoy the videos!

We liked Stalypso, Stakkato Gold (a bit plain to look at and small but can really jump), Carenzo we really liked (and have a mare in foal to) he is elegant, long legged and attractive and jumps.

My other half was standing next to someone bidding up a horse to 100k who then walked out, they weren't very subtle. Although the Last Man Standing colt was a very very nice horse i find it hard to believe that he sold for 1.15 million when the other prices were so low and when someone told me in the stables after that he already had an agreed price of 300,000, still the highest price of that auction but not 1.15 million.
