Went to Oldencraig today for unaffiliated, only Stars 2nd time out dressage. WOW how posh is that place, i so want to livery there haha...anyway got there with just enough time after traffic down our way. So checked in with the secretary, tacked up and of we went to warm up
smile.gif

First was the Prelim 17 which i found out was in the indoor arena (again very posh with Paverotti blasting out lol). Warming up she seemed to go well, especially we were using my friends dressage saddle which makes all the difference..well thats what i tell my Dad haha. So went in, did a fab test although Star kepted looking at herself in the mirrors lol and we ended up with 65.41% and 5th place
laugh.gif
Very pleased as there was some stiff comp like a stunning black 3yr old Stallion...main comment was again to watch my hands and her wobbly head
smirk.gif

Sooo onto the Novice 21 which was outdoor. Warmed up again and this time she was feeling a little fresher, sqeauling etc lol. well went to the ring, started down the centre line and OMG Star does not like giant flags lining the end of the areana by the judges shed lol
smile.gif
Half the test was spent going sidewards or backwards and spinning round whoops. At the times she did actually settle down, she went well! So you can imagine my score lol 47.5% oh well, its all experience...Nice thing was that the orginser said I could have gone back in and walked around to get her used to them but we were loaded and ready to go by then...but she said next time im there doing a test she will book me a time in the outdoor to ride around
smile.gif

Piccies and vids will be up soon when i get them and thanks to KIm-R for being groom and photographer

Went to Oldencraig once to look at a horse and my oh my... yep is a looovely place... to compete there... what an experience. I think you did very well. Flags, I can imagine!! Very kind of the organiser to say you could walk around next time. I think this is very productive especially as it was Stars second time out. Well done to you both!

Thanks

Yeh its people like that which make you want to return again..Can highly reccomend the place, very well organised, not too busy and everyone seems very friendly. After our little circus act in the outdoor, people kept coming to me and saying 'well done, well sat' haha....

Would like to affiliate soon hopefully

Oh thats a shame, but like you said maybe just get her out to more dressage tests etc to get her used to it all...Will try and get to you about that time as havnt got to do Star in the morning....so can help you get ready and stuff
smile.gif
Then home for 12pm, go to lesson then get back and pop down Leeds Castle hopefully...

Well that is a great idea! You can always go on a ticket at first so you do not clock up your points, get your beasty use to surroundings, FLAGS!! etc... and then off you go!!

Just wanted to say helloooo, I was the one with the little (well maybe not so little) bay horse who you chatted to. I agree about the venue, I can't believe how posh it is and yet everyone is so friendly.

Well done for staying on in your second test. My fella wasn't overly keen on the jumps next to the dressage arena but I got away with just a little bit of a false bend.

Maybe I'll see you again there next time!

He got 68 ish in the first test and was lying second when we left (clever pony). I don't know his score in the second class yet, I see they put the scores online though so will have a squizz later.

Hope you had a better journey back than you did getting there. Your mare looked so cool and calm when I saw her, such a shame those flags attacked her like that!! Well done in the first test though

Oldencraig is lovely, and i had a very similar experience to you last time i was there!

I purposely booked in to do two tests in the outdoor, as i need to get the hang of her spooking. But the first time i went in there, she went loopy at all the flags and i barely managed to perform any movements as was constantly trying to stay on the track!! She also wouldnt go anywhere near the judges box, and so are centre lines always finished at x!!
blush.gif

However, when i went in for the 2nd test she was a lot better, so may be worth doing 2 tests next time in that arena?

Haha sounds exactly like my little madam..maybe it was the moody judges in the judge box lol
tongue.gif
...well the organiser nicely said next time im there doing a test she will book me a slot to just ride around and get her used to them!!! Shes usually fine after the 1st time so hopefully next time will be better lol..

Oh excellant, well done you
smile.gif
There was alot of good horses there today so you did well...Journey home was fine thankfully, although i fell asleep so wouldnt really know lol...Good luck with your next event
smile.gif

Ahhh yes the FLAGS!! We had our Regionals there so went up a week before to get him used to them. He wasnt that keen but was more horrified at the judges box on the long side that the sun was shining off the plastic window. Made an interesting test.

When he went for the Regionals he ended up being in the school by the water feature and didnt bat an eyelid lol.

You are right tho. the ppl there were really lovely and its such a great place. Really posh but friendly which I think is unusual. Shame its just a bit far for us with our old lorry except for 'special' occasions.

Well done with the prelim and dont be too disappointed with the Novice.

Haha, glad its not only me they catch out lol...no im pleased with both tests and pleased with myself for staying calm when she was messing - used to be a time i'd throw the towel in lol!

Thts a great score in your prelim hun, WELL DONE!

Dont worry about the flags and things - Bloss did that at Sheepgate in the U25s Elementary Championship at the BYRDs Nationals, i was meant to be doing rein back at 'c' and shejust shot backwards really fast and refused to go past as one of the banners was flapping
smirk.gif
She did go eventually but was then a complete pain for the rest of the test!!

Well done thats a fantastic result
grin.gif

I might brave it and go down there one day

We will have the same problem with the flags

That's a great result for the Prelim, and like you said, put the Novice down to experience... how nice that they said they would book you in for a walk around. That sounds like a fantastic venue!

I don't think Grace would appreciate flags either...

What a lovely horse you have
smile.gif

It is good that you went out there and competed...the scores will improve with time, spookiness will be overcome too it will just take a few outings! It was nice for the secretary to be so accomodating!

Diana

Thanks
