Yesterday I caught my dog having, what I think was a fit. He was walking up and down the garden, looking agitated, and gagging. This lasted for about 10 mins (but could have been happening before I got to see) and he was sick twice and brought a load of phlegm up 5 times. Then he fell over, well his back legs went, and he was on his side and his legs were jerking and he looked asif he was trying to get up but couldn’t control his back legs, and to an extent his front legs but not as bad. After about 5 seconds, he managed to get up but was unsteady on his feet and couldn’t settle. He was walking up and down like before with his head down.
Anyway he was fine and back to normal after 20 mins.

He hadn't eaten anything that morning, and this happened about half 11ish. And his tea from the day before hadn't been touched. He also had a pig’s ear the day before and ate his morning meal. After this happened, he ate a couple of handfuls of dry biscuits and drank 3 bowlfuls of water.

He is 13 in a few weeks and lives outside so although this is the first 'fit' I’ve seen, he might have had them before which I feel awful about. He is fit and healthy with no other known heath problems.
I've been watching him and keeping an eye on him since then and he seems to be back to normal.

We're going the vets on Tuesday but I was wondering if anyone had any experience or advice on what has happened to him. And also, any idea on what the vets will say?
I would have taken him the vets as soon as it happened but I've been told not to drive and Tuesday is the earliest we can go.

Hello,
My Lurcher used to have fits. His symptoms weren't the same as you describe though. He would keel over and with his eyes rolling and have spasms over his whole body. We just kept very quiet and gave him space until he came round. I sound as if your dog possibly had some kind of obstruction? and was trying to heave it up.
If a dog is off his food, I give them some tripe the smell seems to really get their appetite going. Maybe he picked up a piece of the pigs ear he'd left behind. It might be better to give him softer chews if he a bit of a piggy. I hope he doesn't have anymore.

Thats what I thought initially, but got abit shocked when he fell down and started jerking.
Another theory was that he was too hot, which I'm worried about because its only going to hotter as the weeks go on.
He's always been fussy with his food and never seems to eat much anyway but he's ate his breakfast today and had a sneaky bit of ham

He seems fine now so hopefully nothing serious but due a checkup so it won't do any harm to mention it.

He's never been ill or unhappy so I'm just worrying about him :)
