Older lab, loose tooth, what can I expect from the vet?

A brief word of advice if you wouldn't mind.

I've been idly looking for a dog and last Sunday I heard about and met a suitable one who needed a new home and she came home with me that day:D

She's a yellow lab, aged about ten, and is utterly superb, knows just what she's doing, very sweet and keen to be with me but takes herself off to her bed when she feels it's appropriate. I couldn't ask for a better first dog after many years of not owning one. When I met her I noticed she had a brown tooth, one of the lower jaw fronts. She's since had a couple of chews to play with and this morning I noticed that the tooth is loose.

She is booked into the vets this afternoon to get it looked at but I just wondered what to expect. If it was one of my teeth I know that the dentist would give me an anaesthetic injection and whip it out. Should I expect the same for her or am I likely to be faced with the suggestion that she go in for an overnight stay, GA, x-rays and the works?

First of all, what a lucky girl she is :)

From my experiences of teeth - which isn't huge - is that they never know until they are under how difficult a job it will be. I would be hopeful that because it was loose it wouldn't be a huge job though.

So I would expect a GA but not x-rays, hope this helps :)

When we went in it was so obviously very loose and she was so obviously a very calm sensible girl that they decided the simplest thing was to give her a good check over (she's in good nick for her age:D) and then give her a local and whip the tooth out, decision to be made on follow up once we saw how it had gone. In fact it came out very cleanly, root and all and she has had a shot of long-acting painkiller and lots of cuddles with everybody she met and is home again and happy. No further action needed:)

I took my older dog in because I noticed he had a loose tooth and it came out as the vet was checking it. :o

She's a lovely old girl. :)
