I have an almost 10yr old weim who has always had funny eating habits.

she doesnt always have her breakfast, usually preferring to sleep in! Lately though, she is not eating her food, or will but gradually. Her breakfast is still down and she may of had a couple of biscuits but thats it. If she hears the cats trying to get it she shoots out there to scare them off but returns back to sleeping on her stall.

she's fine in herself, loves her carrots, wants to lick my yogurt pot when im done and is still active. She also just got the thumbs up from the vet who is impressed at her condition, she doesnt look or act like a 10yr old.

she's on science plan food, meant to get two scoops morning and evening. do you think we should cut it down? She isnt losing weight and doesnt need to put on weight. My mum said about cutting her down to 1 meal a day, what are your thoughts?

How are her teeth?

Science Plan isn't the best, despite the price!

Feed by eye, not what the packet says - a packet cannot possibly know what your individual dog needs to eat. Some dogs don't need twice daily feeding, we had a female who lived to 14 on one morning meal a day. In the wild they can go for days without eating.

Thankyou for your reply, yes her teeth are fine.

I know science plan isnt the best but its the only one that doesnt give her an awful stomach! She gets the most vile wind and poo when something doesnt agree with her.

We were advised to give her this amount according to her weight and age but obviously now, she doesnt want it.

Yesterday eve i fell asleep for a couple of hours and they ended up being fed an hour and a half late, she still wasnt interested so i gave her a carrot and this morning, still not interested.

my mum is away until monday, i'll keep an eye on her and see how she is but im thinking she's going to need to change her food if she isnt going to eat at all!

Or maybe she is missing my parents and she might start eating at least one meal a day.

Well, while i was writing out the last post it seems she has eaten her breakfast. I added warm water to it earlier thought she had turned her nose up but she caved, it did smell a bit like wheetabix :D

Yellow Dog is a bit like this. He's never been massively interested in food but as he's got older (10 this month) he might eat one biscuit before we go in the morning (if he gets out of bed) but normally will eat half his breakfast when we get home after doing the horse and going for a walk then have a sleep and then has a bit more around lunchtime. Sometimes he finishes his breakfast before his supper but normally they end up mixed together. His teeth etc are fine and the vet says he's fine so I just figure that if humans appetites change as they get older then chances are so has his.

My weimaraner bitch goes off her food sometimes. Adding butchers tripe seems to be doing the trick. I presume you feed twice a day to minimise the risk of bloat and I would be loathe to stop doing that tbh.
