Has anybody ever had a lesson/ being to a demo or clinic with Oliver Skeete? Just wondering what your opinions were? Feel free to PM me if you don’t want to post on here.

Oliver never jumped to a very high standard so not sure how beneficial a lesson with him would be. I have no experience of Oliver just an observation.

Exactly.. wasn't he only famous for his hair and skin colour, not for being a top horseman?
 
You dont need to have good results or have ridden to a very high standard to be a good trainer.

But on the other hand I wouldnt have a lesson from anyone that hadnt ridden to a high standard - just my personal preference

I don't think he jumped above foxhunter. I remember reading his book and he was talking about bucking - the picture showing this bucking was infact a horse landing over a jump!

haha, whenever i go out in maidstone i always say to my friends at the beginning of the night that we ARE NOT to end up in strawberry moons.......it ALWAYS happens though!!

I don't think he jumped above Discovery. He was also on that Celebrity Fighting (?) show last year before it got cancelled
 
If I can remember that far back..... Im getting a bit forgetful in my old age... He was being promoted as the first Black showjumper and couldnt ride for toffees!! There was a programme dedicated to him as a fantastic showjumper and he was jumpin 2'9 badly!!!I think it was a total publicity stunt. He was all over the telly one minute and then never heard of again. I think he was trained by Nigel Goddard, but never made the grade.

I must admit Ive always wondered what happened to him!

Mind you, his dreadlocks were yummy!! Bob Marley fan in my teens speaking!!
 
I have never seen him teach so I can't comment but he used to pull out of competitions at heights I warmed up at. If he is not capable of jumping at those heights I do't know if he is the right person to teach jumping.
 
he was a terrible rider, as said before only made famous becuase he was the only black affiliated show jumper at the time.
 
Im sure that he rode at hoys or olympia on a good horse he got given as sponsorship.. but needless to say it all ended in tears.. I would advise strongly against lessons with him when there are so many people around who you could gain much more valuable experience from..
 
If you sniff around google long enough there is a self-publicity thing that comes up...don't ask for more details as I can't remember, but anyway it talks all about what his aims were at the time (The Olympics if memory serves me right

) and lists all the BSJA grades and said that he was competing one down from the top (ie Grade B's )...but I have to say I never heard of him jumping anything bigger than a NC's or perhaps a Fox. Certainly wouldn't be spending money on him teaching me....but might be prepared to do him a lesson at a special discount rate if he asked nicely lol!

If it's the fact that he's a black SJ'er that interests you you could always try Patrick Nisbett who is on the Kent / Sussex border. He does compete at a decent level and is off to the Pan American Games in Rio next month

name from the past, I saw him quite a bit at one show center, never saw him jump any higher than newcomers, and never saw him get round a newcomers without quite a few faults if at all.

Very good fun on a social level, but from what I saw at the time you would be better off having a schooling session on your own!!
 
The day he was filmed jumping the BN for the TV show he didn't even manage to count from 1 - 10! I was there jumping (Mill Lodge) and came 2nd in the filmed class!

He had a couple or 3 horses off Lionel Dunning and tbh was always full of excuses about how 'it's got a bad back' or 'it slipped in the field the other day so must have pulled something'

Personally wouldn't bother!
 
He lives very local to me and was at a party I was at last year - in fact the same people have a party in a couple of weeks so he will probably be there if anyone wants me to ask him about lessons!!!!

He was wowing the local riding club women with how wonderful he is. Absolutely hiliarious to hear them (these are people that don't jump at all, or up to about 2ft 6 maximum) and they are completely taken in by him.
 
I remember he was on TV, wasn't he trying to become a top showjumper in like a year or something? From what I saw, he didn't impress me at all! Maybe he's changed but if not then I wouldn't dream of getting a lesson or even taking advice from him. He rode horrendously on TV yet thought he was the bees knees!

I remember him. He made an announcement out of the blue that he was going to be the first non-rider, to learn to ride and jump in the Olympics. As a far as he was concerned, you just bought a decent horse and it went out and won it for you!

Idiot!

Saw a programme about him. Showed him jumping 3ft 6" on a long suffering horse doing its' best to stay in a rythym and jump while this pl*nker bumped up and down on his back.

Needless to say, the Top SJ'ers thought he was a prat. I remember an interview with Tim Stockdale who didn't mince his words and said as much.
 
ive also seen oliver skeet up strwberry moons giving it large wiv his b*tches!!!!
He may be-able to give u sum dance lessons??but not sure on if ud pay him or he shud pay u for SJ lessons!!(only joking obv,if Mr Skeet is on here??)!
