Whilst watching the puissance last night I noticed alot of the showjumpers were looking alot leaner than they used to, even Locarno. Is it just the time of the year or is it another of the new things they've come up with?
 
I think the type of horse has become lighter, the grey horse that won the WEG looked enourmous compared to the others whereas before he would have been the norm. The more technical tracks have resulted in a lighter more careful type horse being used.

Saying that Finbar is just odd, how does it jump that wall?
 
I know! I closed nearly closed my eyes when he was jumping...looks so upside down!

I'm sure Locarno carried alot more weight a couple of years ago, and you could count the ribs on Ben Mahers horse.
 
Hmm, im not a fan of ribs, but I do agree with what DD says in much sense. I think that many horses look so much better in the summer monthes, I know my boy looks skinny this time of year.
 
I agree that Locarno looked a lot slimmer than previous competitions.

I agree on that Finbarr comment but he is just well....Finbarr.
I had to hold my breath on that last jump!!!
 
Oh but he has come through such a learning curve, back in july at Scts and GYS he was coming out of 1.30m classes with 8f in the first round on day 1, and then went on to win the Cock O' the North, but he is an odd horse...
 
I didn't see any fat horses at Olympia...nor did I see any hat racks !

They all looked like well toned athletes to me

Finbar IS odd...but he can jump a wall. Eperlan Du Fouquest can jump a wall like no other....but needs to learn to jump a spread

For me the class act was Marcus Fuchs on Ovation. That horse never changed a stride to the wall all evening......and it will jump a GP too

Have to agree with you here re. Ovation. What a stunning looking horse and so beautifully ridden. The horse seemed to have so much trust in his rider and bearing in mind that the rider had not competed in a puissance for 15 years and Ovation was in his first, I believe, made their performance all the more remarkable.

Re. the weight issue, I think that the other horses were more of a type, being longer, leaner types of horse whereas Ovation was shorter and rounder by nature.
I certainly didn't notice that any were thin.
