Olympia turnout questions

I get annoyed looking at the crippled saddle cloths.....and how many sheepskin half pads do the blinking need??? No wonder horses have bad backs these days with youngsters thinking that what they need.
A young girl at my yard wants one for her pony but her mum says no, her saddle fits fine with a thin saddle cloth. She only wants it because she wants to show jump and its what all they have.

Anybody else notice that quite a few of the horses were landing disunited in between fences and then jumping the next fence out of that disunited canter?!

I don't use saddle cloths at all! I don't even own one. When I won a saddle cloth at a show a few years ago I gave it to a friends daughter.

We were taught that if the saddle fits then it doesn't need one and the besything to have against a horses skin is well conditioned leather as it allows air to flow freely and prevents the back over heating

I have only watched one class and I thought the horses would all have looked smarter with properly pulled tails. Plaits were nice but I do think as has been previously mentioned on this thread that they need to be carefully done to avoid discomfort while stretching over a jump, I quite like to see nicely pulled manes straightened with hair straighteners. I don't like the jackets these days, pin striped body hugging short things, they would look better on bikes, but maybe they are more aerodynamic and could shave a hundredth of a second off the clock!

I find it quite ridiculous that only half the mane was plaited. You would think for a professional showjumping there turnout would be professional and it's either plaited or natural. No half and half that's just lazy. And if it was to keep the mane over he should have plaited it all... it dosnt take long to plait when your a groom.

I agree. When I watched my first thought was that maybe his groom had run out of time to plait up! Either plait or natural, not a half arsed effort!

I also think the half plaited mane is ridiculous... If its to keep the mane on one side, why not plait the whole mane while you're at it?? Is it laziness?:confused: I don't ever remember seeing half-plaited manes years ago!

If you look alot of show jumpers have manes trimmed by scissors, you get this blunt square line, I don't like it at all, but then I am traditional :D and stuck in my ways lol

Hey - maybe people will think my horse is a Showjumper instead of a happy hacker with a dodgy hairdo! (well we did jump 20cm today at the yard xmas show!)

Sorry can't quote. EquilibrIium Ireland well if it's not a half arsed job what is it? I'm sure they have many grooms and plenty time at home to lay the mane over on to the correct side especially in advance for Olympia! People look upto these men/women and how there horses are presented so to say that they only made half the effort by planting half the mane. It is truly lazy!! And its not because it isn't my way as it was a simple job.

It's not half plaited. No plait at all. Some people don't want nor care for the plait look. Doesn't mean it's half arsed because its not your way.

Terri

Sorry - to me it's either a lack of respect to the horse, the competition, judges and public

OR
just plain laziness not to either plait the whole mane or unplait the part plaited.

Ouor young riders look to those at the top for guidence - what example are we setting if the top riders lok like they just dragged the horse out of the stable with no thought or care to their presentation.

I wondered that too, Mythical!

I ALWAYS wear gloves when I ride, I know not everyone does and it's a personal thing but I'm surprised that none of the showjumpers ever seem to wear any. I wonder why?
