Olympics do I have to subscribe or would using a vpn work

Discovery Plus is doing an Olympics offer for £3.99, which I am more than happy to pay for full coverage. Using a VPN feels like stealing, I am surprised that H&H are suggesting it….. except I notice it's a financially lucrative suggestion for them because it seems to be a form of advertising 🤔

Does anyone know where to find the actual schedule of what the BBC will be showing?

Not yet, and with their limited range this year (same as in Tokyo), they may well chop and change, and only show the exciting/medal moments.

I’ll be getting the Discovery+ sub to ensure I’ve to access to everything I want. Just a general plea to everyone though - before you all moan about BBC coverage a) they reduced their contract pre Tokyo and b) they’ll be showing what the Olympic Broadcast company film so if camera angles are out, it’s not the Beeb’s fault.

OP - A vpn won’t help you with iplayer, only access to watching coverage from abroad. The decent ones cost money anyway so you may as well buy the Discovery sub!

I will be watching via CBC and a VPN. I believe they cover all sports individually if you so choose to watch that way or can watch their general Olympics programming (I am quite certain that they did this for the Tokyo Olympics. Having just looked at the CBC website it looks like they've set it up that way for the Paris Olympics as well though it looks like they've only got eventing dressage available atm)

I think we get everything too, in Australia, on channel 9 for free. Last olympics coverage was great.

You need the £6.99 for full coverage was my reading of it but still that’s for every sport so a fair price

A bonus of switching to Sky when our road got fast fibre and our previous supplier couldn't provide cover, is that we get basic Eurosport and Discovery Plus. That said £6.99 is a bargain buy.

Why does it feel like stealing? You're simply blocking your computer showing where you're from.

Happy to subscribe to Discovery Plus, thats how I watched Tokyo, and it was great, but is it possible to also watch on demand on discovery plus?

Technically it is. Companies buy rights to show programmes in different locations so by hiding where you are, you're bypassing local copyright Not a major crime in the grand scheme of things though, modern equivalent of buying a pirated video.

Virgin added some sports (and film) channels when I last negotiated my price, didn't particularly want them but my subscription was going up and this ended up cheaper than what I was paying before the increase. There's lot of Eurosport channels on there.

The only thing about Discovery+ is that it’s incredibly difficult to unsubscribe from (as I discovered after Tokyo).

I’ll be subscribing again though because two lads I coached when teenagers are competing 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪😁 and I can’t miss that.

If you go to 'manage your account' once you've subscribed, bottom left hand side there's an option to cancel subscription. Just make sure your purchase the monthly option, not the annual one first :)

It is stealing, albeit on a very small scale!
Discovery+ have the rights to broadcast it in the UK, at a large cost to them, and we are then buying our little share of that. For being able to watch all the Olympic sports in a really easy to use app, I really don’t think £3.99 is a big ask.

Using a VPN is not stealing IMO, you can still only watch what is available to you via yor subscriptions. If you have subscriptions that would enable you to watch in the UK but you are abroad, you are already paying?
I can't get too excited about using a VPN in one country to watch things which are free in another country. If I could work out how to do it on my TV there are probably things I would watch. I guess its the same as a PC but whilst I am PC literate, the TV remote controls regularly defeat me entirely!
