Hi All,

I've bought an 'omega' dressage saddle. It was cheap and looked in good condition so i just went for it and purchased.

I've been trying to find out some info on maker but not getting very far. All i seem to find is info on a company that make strange looking, highly coloured, treeless saddles. This is a very normal looking dressage saddle. Im not really too bothered if its the best make in the world or not (as i said it was cheap!):) But just curious.

Has anyone heard of Omega?

Thanks.

the picture of the makers badge says ' Walsall omega saddle co. England'

Sorry for any bad spelling; I've tried my best.

My old loan pony had an omega gp saddle when he first came. From what I remember it seemed alright but I found it a few years ago (Was a good few years ago now!)

Polos- Thanks for the reply. Can you remember if the leather was ok? There seems to be very little information about them anywhere.

I meant to say at the end of the last post that I found it a bit uncomfortable but then again it was fitted to fit the pony and his previous rider who was smaller than me.

The leather seemed fairly good. It seemed to have worn well and it was around the same quality as the second hand black country I replaced it with. I'm guessing it would have been about 2/3 years old when I rode in it and it still looked quite good.

Hi, Thanks for replying again.

Looks like it should be ok quality then; for the amount paid. I've taken an educated gamble on whether it will fit me and my horse. So if its uncomfortable or doesnt fit i will just have to sell it on.

I think, but might be wrong, that this was the own brand label of a saddler called Mike Norton who at the time was part of CH Brown of Oxford. He has now retired and the company is run by his daughter (saddledoctors).

I know this because many years ago he fitted an omega jump saddle to my then event horse. I recall they were 'his' saddles. The badge on it was blue with an omega sign.

Don't know if this helps? The saddles I refer to were good quality. Even going back 15 years I recall mine costing about £750 new.

ihatework- Thanks, thats great. I can have a ratch on the web for information on him or his Daughter.

Yes, that sounds like the same badge as this has on it. Hopefully it will be a good saddle then. It looked quality in the pictures (as much as you can tell off a pic) but it was priced very low, so i thought maybe it was an indian copy or something. As i dont really do much dressage, and the saddle was more of a 'fancy' for one i thought id take the risk.

I have an Omega dressage saddle (has the omega sign) and it is lovely. One of my friends coverts it as she claims no other saddle has given her quite the same feel! AFAIA Omega no longer exists, the other Omega is not English as far as I can tell.

O Great! Do you mind if i ask how tall you are? Im 5'9 and long in the leg, my instructor says some dressage saddles can be very uncomfortable if not right for your build. Also what size is it, and on what type of horse does it fit? Reason i ask is, the saddler mentioned she thinks its a tight medium. Im hoping this will be ok as my medium fit GP needed a fair amount of flocking to get it off his shoulder and back enough.

Im liking that so far its been good feed back, looks like i might have got a good saddle for a steal.

I know really i wont know untill its here and i get it fitted.... but im sooo EXCITED!! ha ha Its not very offern i treat myself to such things.:D

Sorry for taking so long, my laptop is being painfully slow!

I am 5' but it has been used by several taller riders, including AprilBlossom who I think is around 5'9".

I's 17.5 and I think a medium (but it isn't marked for width fitting) and it's been used on several different types. I bought it (fitted by saddler) for a 16h TB cross and since then it's been on a 17h warmblood, a 15h TB cob cross and a 14.2 connie cross. I find I usually need to add a pad (not sure if this was needed on the cob cross as it was the friend who used it on him) but it has plenty on wither clearance without a pad.

Going back to what Ihatework posted, mine is actually marked CH Brown & Son, Oxford.

No need to apologise at all, im grateful for the info. I've spent the last week googling my heart out with no success!

Its looking good then, The one I've bought is the same seat and tree size, so hope luck is on my side and it fits. He is a 16.2 ID X TB so not too big.
