OMG I cantered Pidge tonight and what a difference
shocked.gif
on the right rein he was amazing - so soft, round and balanced without me even trying and when I put my legs on it was even better

our normal canter is pretty quick and flat so tonights was just awesome

then tried him on the left which has always been worse canter wise and true to form we were still a bit rushed and slightly inside out

but definately more bouncy so an improvement even on his worse rein

Plus my left leg is my weakest

Sorry for posting yet again but I'm on such a high

all in all a truly wonderful day for me, so lots of tlc and carrots for Pidge.

What a good feeling!!Glad pidge is obviously feeling better!!
Just out of curiosity-does the vet think that pidge's hock will fuse? Its just that my horse has just been diagnosed with a hock spavin and the vet says he doesnt think it will fuse-and from your stories with Pidge it all sounds very positive!!
Well done btw!

better is a slight understatement, I have NEVER had a canter like that in the 2 years I have owned him so I am on cloud 9

Yes my vet is optimistic it will fuse. Went and saw the xrays last week and the difference between the 2 hocks is a slight cloudiness between two bones and small bone spurs on the edge of one of the bones. Vet said it is mild spavin. Injection helps it fuse? So once the we get over the next 4 weeks we can see how he is going, but vet just wants me to call him with an update as opposed to coming out again as he doesn't envisage there being any problems

Just such a dramatic improvement in his way of going since having the jab in his hock, on 1 1/2 scoops day of newmarket joint supplement and one bute a day (been off since Friday morning ready for todays assessment) we can do leg yielding, shoulder in, leg yielding without going forwards - half pass?, and now this dramatic improvement in his canter

What treatment has your horse had so far?

thanks, think I'm going to have to seriously improve my fitness level too

he has so much energy at the moment yet is on hardly any feed - handful of alpha a and his top spec feed balancer plus medicines

Wow!You must be over the moon!!
My horse was only diagnosed this week-vet is coming out to nerve block on monday aswell and then we will go from there! He mentioned steroid injections - is that what pidge had? He thinks his spavin is mild and unlikely(although not impossible) to fuse as he described it as 'grumbling' and therefore still active?
Glad pidge is feeling so well!!

Oh yes still grinning stupidly now

Pidge's spavin is still settling that is what caused him to go lame in the first instance. Once its fused it shouldn't cause him too much problems. The injection was a Depo Medone in his hock, I think its a cortisteroid? will try and find post if this site plays ball

as vet report has gone off to the NFU claim department. Failing that look at my past posts as I had lots of informative responses from people on here who have been or are going through the same thing.

So pleased that things are still on the up!

You must go back & read the post you made when you were feeling like it was the end of the world to see just how far you have come in such a short space of time!!

Delighted for you & Pidge - wish I had a good schooling session tonight too, and my gelding doesn't have hock spavin - just pure evil
