Lunged tonight - only 20-30 mins max. By time finished Dex was puffing like a train (did quite a lot of canter work) and was sweating buckets !!

I really wasnt considering clipping anytime soon but want to do a 12 mile ride on Sunday with jumps and if it is as hot as it says will be I think he could be in trouble if I dont !

but... he is currently unrugged and if the weather turns a little colder after this week dont want to clip for the sake of one ride ............ would look at long term weather forecast but we all know how reliable this is....

not sure what to do - trace clip and dont rug ?, no clip?, blanket clip then rug at night ?

toffee sponge pudding and custard for any ideas !

Thanks Polotash - thats me geting my clips muddled - meant chaser - cordless clippers charged and ready to go - must chalk lines on as otherwise spend much too long trying to get even and end up taking more off than meant to!

Mine were sweating at the weekend so I have clipped them both! I was going to do a blanket but farrier suggested a chase clip with all of the neck off! I am leaving rugs off this week as it is so warm but as soon as it gets colder will put light weights on until I give them full clips at the end of Oct!

to be fair it prob was more like 20 mins than 30 but he was sweating more than on a 10 mile hack ! bloody weird weather !!!! he is a little more porky than I would like so lunging is great (came out of last winter looking very well too so no need for any extra weight going into this one)

can you tell I am delaying going down yard to get covered in white fluffy itchy hair ? (just cleaned car too - will take extra t shirt to change into) or maybe hose self off afterwards .. its warm enough !

yipee all done with aid of haynet, builders blue chalk line and phone (to photo one side to compare to other) - good horse stood stock still - only bit doesnt like having done is near ears but only did chaser so not a problem.

Really pleased as can now do ride sunday but leave unrugged while so bloody hot !

Sounds like my Irish drought cross..he is looking more like a bear every day.
Took him out for a 30 minute hack earlier at 6:30 on Monday evening and he was swimming with sweat when I got back, so I put a cooler on and left it for 20 minutes to try and soak it up, but had to take it off and leave him as I had to go, didn't like leaving him wet but at least he was in a stable.

Last night he was damp just standing in his stable at 7pm!

Spoke to yard about clipping him, not sure how it will go as he is nervous about rugs on/off let alone clipping!

I clipped my cobs chest last week as he has 2 sponsored rides to get through and he has his own central heating system. I know it can be chilly in the morning but I'm hoping a hairless patch on him will encourage a bit of weight loss! I had to clip my old little pony today as he already is starting to resemble a teddy bear! My 2 come in during the heat and he was just standing there starting to sweat so take a bit off his chest and armpits too to help him out:rolleyes: He seemed a lot happier and relieved to have air reaching his skin:)

I think I'm going to have to give in and clip. I'm going on holiday on Tuesday so had wanted to leave mine hairy so he could stay naked while I'm away but he seems to be really struggling in this weather. He has full winter woolies (and he is HAIRY!) and is feeling really stuffy to ride/work. Lunged him this morning and he literally melted in front of me after a few minutes then tried to go to sleep in the lunge pen! Clipping now isn't ideal as it means my YO has to mess around with rugs while I'm away plus he is such a hot horse (clipped or not) that I don't want him to end up with rugs on and be boiling.

But... have DR on Sunday and I'll be lucky if I can get him to move off the spot if the weather stays like this :-S I'm going to have to give in and give him a chaser clip I think then take it all off in 3 weeks when I get back from hols.

mine are both really hairy already and sweating when worked, was trying leave them a couple more weeks, but, like most everyone else I now plan to give them both a quick bath and then clip it all off on Saturday morning. first time I can remember being in danger of getting a suntan while clipping .....LOL

It is extremely warm at the moment and probably won't last that long. I was sweating buckets too after riding today but we'll probably back to more autumnal weather next week
