Last night i went for a quick hack after work on my 5 yo ISH Gelding Borris. He is by nature quite sharp at the best of times and has been on and off funny with wearing an exercise sheet, something he had never worn until about 2 weeks ago. Now when you ride Borris you don't carry a whip or wear spurs, something i learnt when i broke him in back in March this year.

I got on him as normal on the mounting block and he had his back up and was rather 'prancy' all the way down the drive, i put it down to the exercise sheet (well fitting coolex one) and carried on. There was lots of tail swishing and mini bucking, again i didn't take much notice as he used to have these days regularly, although he has been really good for the last 3 months or so. So i just gathered he had a bee in his bonnet last night and ignored him.

When we got back home (he was like the above all the way round) I got off and took his exercise sheet off, thinking i'll hop back on and ride him back down the drive to see if that was it. Whilst taking the exercise sheet off i noticed a mark on his off side where my heel was and with complete horror looked at my heel only to see my make-shift zip on my short boots (paper clip!!!) had managed to unravel and poke, sharp end out, out of my half chaps!!!

So the poor little soul had put up with me jabbing him in the side with no less than the equivalant of a bloody needle!! Needless to say once boot was sorted out i hoped back on and he was an angel - i felt awful! Poor, poor Borris! Cue treats, hugs, kisses and a session on the equilibrium massage pad!

I have, several times over the years used paper clips as make shift zips - needless to say last night was the last time!
