OK I've always been a purist when it comes to riding (I've even used 2 sets of reins across country). All my horses, for ever, have been ridden in a french link snaffle... it's what I use - I don't alter it unless competing at high level dressage or in the show ring... And then I didn't like it
BUT OMG My new little chap LOVES the double... all of a sudden he works thru his back, can do a canter transition without flattening totally and has stopped taking the proverbial... It's like I've had a religious conversion - I've NEVER known a horse go better in a curb bit before but this chap is suddenly going forward (rather than sideways) into the contact.
IF I hadn't seen it I wouldn't have believed it -- but I think I've been converted.
