Ive just got both my horses insured and nearly fell off my chair when he told me how much it would be FOR BOTH OF THEM!!!

£41.97 per month FOR BOTH!!!

HOW GOOD IS THAT!!

Im in shock. Thats with PetPlan and when I had just Archie insured with Stoneways he was £64 a month, JUST HIM!!!!

Had to share with you all, coz Im in a state of shock!

Not wanting to rain on your parade BUT do make absolutely certain that it's the same cover for each company.

If so - well done! I'm still chuffed for getting my car insurances down from £520 with one car covered for breakdown to £350 with both cars covered - so I know it can be done.

sasha is insured with them she is 17 and only insured for token amount (about £1000 i think) i pay £25 per month how did you get it that cheap for both

If its all correct than wow but I'd do as everyone has said and double check, £40 odd a month for 2 horses at the value you have insured them for sounds too good to be true, or doe you mean £40 odd each per month?

If you go for higher excess options and the horses values are lower then you are going to end up paying less as the premium is (generally) rated at a % on the sum insured of the horse.

That's brilliant, well done! My insurance is due for renewal soon and I was just wondering what you have to do to change companies? Do you need to have another vetting done? Does anyone know? Thanks.

Petplan is a lot cheaper when you opt for the Vets fee £500 excess which is what we do.

I insured my new horse and did this. The premium was halved compared to the £115 excess policy.

MMmmm, I changed to Petplan in October and would avoid them like the plague! Customer Services are pleasant enough but they seem to have a load of numpties working in underwriting - I have probably phoned them 30 times, faxed, written and am always told my vets report is in the back log! Despite hacving been given a quotation, when the policy documentation came through there were a couple of ridiculous exclusions for very minor, old problems, which my vet confirmed to my previous insurer should be lifted in 2002 - which they did. I currently have no cover for 2 legs (not even accidental, external injusry and no cover for an eye and no response to my submission of a vets report (which I had to pay for) which weas sent in over 2 months ago! Absolute shite service!

I've always been insured with Petplan, well for the last 8 years but luckly never had to claim, so last May after doing a bit of price comparing my mum offered to pay for my horse insurance in one lump sum for my birthday present with....wait for it....E&L!!! well I'm beginning to have my doubts because everyone I've spoke to have said oooh heck, stay well away from them, their bad at paying out etc etc

Do I panic cancel or wait till this May and re-new then?

Kenzo, you may aswell stay put til May really. Just be prepared if you do make a claim you could be waiting a while to get it paid. If you cancel now you may lose money if they cancel on a short term cancellation rate (within the first period of insurance). If you did claim they are obliged to pay for treatment as per their policy wording so although they could try to not pay, providing you do everything correctly (check your wording on claims procedures!) they would be hard pressed not to pay!

NFU are even cheaper with the high excess and have much better cover than PETPLAN.
