It's living in the tube of my tumble dryer in the boiler room!!!

It looks very young, and it's friendly so perhaps someone's pet!!

Trouble is, I've three JRT's and can't let them out know!!!

Does anyone know anything about ferrets???

yup they can bite, and it can hurt like ****!!!

Ermmm not really sure what you should do about it (except obv advertise that you have found it!)

maybe contact your local vets practices and see if anyone has reported their ferret missing!?

They also only eat meat (if you intend on helping it) so dont feed it veg! just meat (pref raw)

Erm....... and maybe dont turn on your tumble drier?!

This is so weird!

Weird isn't the word!!! OH has just put some thick garden gloves on and picked it up!!!!

It isn't bothered at all!! I'll try the local vets, although we're quite far away from the town!!

I have ferrets, some people microchip them so its worth getting it to the vets to be scanned. Careful where u put it, high security doesnt cut it with a ferret, they can get out of some very tight spaces!

Well if its happy to be handled Id assume its a pet!! as unhandled ferrets basically take the approach of sod off!!! (and have you seen their teeth?!)

tell OH to keep the gloves on if handling (as I say, it hurts..... alot!)

maybe ring round locally and ask people if they have lost a ferret if you are pretty out of town, there cant be that many people around?!

Also, if it is staying overnight, maybe get a big box, and put newspaper, or shavings or something in it for it to nestle it and a tube or something (as they like hiding under or in stuff!)

And i wouldnt let it near your JRTs as they are quite viscious if need to fight!

Hiya where about are you, you can pm me if you like?
I can put a post on a hunting forum I go on which has a ferret section ( I own ferrets too btw) and see if anyone has lost one in your area?
Also as regards to feeding. Raw meat is perhaps the best food to give them. But they can also be fed on a special dry food for ferrets and also as a temporary measure or for feeding kits they can also be given cat food, tinned or dry?
What colour is the ferret btw? Albino, polecat, sandy polecat or silver?

Thank you for all the advise!!! It was like ER in here!!!

Dogs only fed dry food, would it eat that? Otherwise I've got some bits of chicken left over from the roast!?

Got a box, as I think in this weather I wouldn't mind turning on the tumble dryer!!! Don't fancy an extra fluffy ferret!!!

Give it the roast chicken not the dog food!
Make sure the box is a ferret escape proof as possible as they can scratch their way out of things.
I haven't got that many of them now but at some points I have had well over 30 of them and being keeping them for around 8 years.

Btw is it a jill or hob? You should be able to tell if not castrated as their bits are usually on show ( even with youngsters). Males also smell more ( if not castrated) and are bigger in size usually or have masculine looking heads as a rule.

I'm really sorry but didn't see any bits!!! Likes the OH though!!

Lol Pedantic yes mine have always had a habit of trying to so that when I go into their run. Bloody hurts too if their claws are in need of trimming or have just been trimmed.
Have replied to your pm btw f_s_

Jill is obviously if it's carrying a pale of water, a hob if it's 4 gas rings with peizo ignition, quite easy to tell the difference then

When Sweep was having his check up there was people in the vets with a ferret that had been dumped in their lane - apparently more females get dumped - they were telling me all about it but as you can tell I wasn't really listening.....

Still this should keep us going for a while......

Can you imagine....Just came back on to HHO, nice cup of coffe, cig, and feeling very mellow, after being soaked all day!! Then OH shouts "OMG there's a pole cat in the garden Quick!!"

Well, I couldn't see it, OH's eyesight's not what it was!!!

Reason I couldn't see it...it was in the boiler room!!! My son shouted to come upstairs, and sure enough, this little nose poked out from the boiler room!!!!

I then told OH it was a ferret (I am a country lass you know!!)

but have never had anything to do with them!!

He rushed out and it ran up to him, quickly put on gradening gloves and picked it up!!!

So, as you say, it could only happen to me!!

Although, I do hope we can get it back to it's owners!!!

Females/jills will get dumped more because they are more problematic to keep than hobs. Unless brought out of season they can get anaemia and die. It is costly to bring out of season. You either have to have them spayed ( rescue centres get it done cheaper as they do in bulk and then pass on cost to people that re-home whereas pet owners have to pay the usual amount), mate every year and have kits each season. Take to vets for jill jab or else mate with a hoblet ( vasectomised hob) to bring out of season. Vasectomies usually cost around £60 plus and spays are not that far off depending on whereabouts in the country you live.

Pedantic that makes me laugh as generally hobs are more full of gas and a bit windier than the females

well none of my ferrets have ever died from eating dry dog food! infact places like the rspca generally feed them that only. The ferret food i buy is the same size chunks as the dog biscuits i buy anyway. ho hum each to their own.

give it cat food for now but make sure it is high in protien. also water . to know the sex look for a belly button if it has one its a hob(male) no belly button female (jill) . belly button is abit of the way up its belly not between its legs...lol dont feed it cooked chicken as bones splinter raw chicken or mince is best.
