OMG just visited TB who now looks like elephant man

I just went to do my horse and he was quite aggitated. When i was rugging him i noticed several lumps on his belly and sheath about the size of half a golf ball. What on earth has happened? Do you think it could be flies? I didnt really think they were that bad at the moment.
Any one else had it? I have sprayed him and put his rug on but he had no fly spray this morning. HELP PLEASE

there were loads and loads of flies round by us today. wait and see if the lumps go down overnight unless you have night flies!! if it is fly related it should go down and if it doesn't go down worry in the morning!!
 
happened to mine about 2 nights ago, he had been out all day and when i brought him in he had similar golfball lumps, but they were gone by the next morning, hope this is the case with your boy too!
 
Thanks both of you. I have never had fly problems before- only had this horse since October-hope its not a sign of things to come!
I got him a fly rug so will dig that out aswell.
OH the panic will i sleep tonight?
 
My pony gets them quite a lot, either they could have been where long grass is that's irritated or more likely just been bombarded by midge bites. My pony doesn't have allergy problems but he has come up in these big weals every so often. They disappear on their own though.
 
I had exactly the same prob, except it was one BIG flat slightly raise lump, the size of my hand. It took ages to go down, but wasn't sore at all? A livery made her a sort of clay mixture with aloe vera and something else which draws out the nastiness, which helped a bit. I left it alone tho, and went down over time but didn't seem to bother her at all.
 
Mine looked like nothing on earth a couple of weeks ago -lumps from head to toe!! Unfortunately his didn't go away, they were still around after 3 days, so I had the vet out to take a quick look. He just said 'typical urticaric rash' - gave him a steroid injection and they were gone by the morning. He's been fine since.

So, maybe flies or maybe not. Hopefully yours will look normal again by the morning :-)
