I am going out for a hack in the morning, yeah not a big deal to most but for me it is.... I haven't really hacked out since my nasty accident so am feeling somewhat nervous but know that Toby will look after me and we are going with another lady and her grey/grey with poo stains too so we will look good together ha ha :D :D

I am really excited and hope that it goes well as it will help my confidence even more so please keep everything crossed that it goes well.

I'll report back if I get back in one piece ha ha ha

Good luck - just remember to relax, breathe and enjoy. I still get nervous every time I hack but my boy really looks after me and I always come back grinning like an idiot. Hope you have a good time.

Good luck remember to chat the hind legs off your companion if you feel nervous to keep you breathing it worked for me x

One tip for future hacks, as I presume you have been and come back now, is to sing a song in your head or even out loud (may feel silly if people pass by though lol) but it is known to stop your nerves taking over and helps you settle.

If you want to swim you have to get wet. Fantastic that you are going out!. Be possitive .Take control of the situation ,Ride dont be a passenger , oh and smile:D. ..... I think it takes guts to break a habit and do somthing, good on you!

not as long as you but I had my first hack in over 6 months today. we went on our own as it is best, he gets too excited with others, (for first one anyway)

I have probably only hacked 6 times since I had him because of my surgeries, and recovery etc

I am so glad I went though, he was a perfect little star, even had a canter. flies were horrendous around his head, but it was like he didn't notice them bless him

Well the report back is a good one.... I SURVIVED it lol :D :D :D :D

Went out with the a lovely lady on her ID X Connie so both horses were really quite, we went up the lane to the farm at the end and came back went round the track that goes round out paddocks, Toby went in front too and was as good as GOLD was sooo proud of him.

He was very forward going ears forward but I asked him to come back a little and without any hesitation he did he seemed to really enjoy being out of the yard which was fantastic to see him so happy, I was very very nervous but chatting away and controlling my breathing really helped.

Going round the track the lady I was riding with had her other horse out in the paddock (he's a hectic tb at that he shot from the bottom of the paddock to where we were) I was expecting some reaction from Toby........ BUT nope not even a 'oh hello' he just carried on walking round ears forward til we reached some old tractor tyres that are in the hedge, he gave them a look sort of stopped, so I gave him a slight squeeze as said yep good lad walk on it's ok and with that reassurance from me we went past nice and calmly not even any kind of snort... then got back to yard and a lorry was pulling up he was like... 'ooo where we off to' bless but again not a peek he just turned round to look at horse being unloaded and that was that really.

I am sooooooooo pleased and happy that I actually took a step to get over my fears, I will go out again soon (maybe in am) just another little bimble.

Thanks for all the lovely words it really has taken me a long time to even think about this but I felt Toby would look after me and by god he did that and was praised with a couple of his treats and a BIG cuddle and kiss from me. lol :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Onwards and upwards from here....... Mr Toby is just helping me sooo sooo much with all my confidence and has become a real favourite at the yard too everyone loves how laid back and chilled he is with EVERYTHING :D :D

He is not always clean... lol we had a little wash before going out he was caked in it on his bum... when he gets bad again I shall take pic to prove it honestly he's a mucky monkey but god he's so worth it lol :) :) :)

Wow welldone you!
I don't know your story? Has your horse not been ridden for 2 yr either?

Well done again! Xx

DD - He is a new horse to me I have only had him 2 weeks after a very loooong search for one, I lost my lad (in sig) coming up 2yrs ago, I had a nasty hacking accident end of 2009 and haven't really ridden since or ridden out at all,so today was a massive milestone for me and Mr Toby is a real priceless horse :D
